Do they actually have people in their seats waiting for the rain to stop or do they hold the doors for seating until the rain is gone? I can't imagine how bummed out I would be if I was waiting in my seat for it to start only for it to get canceled!

Oh, I was sitting in my seat the entire time it was raining... the house was probably 1/4 full. People were forced to wait outside the gates at one point.
It was pretty awful. I went home disappointed and wet.
But hey! It's free and outdoors. It's silly to be so bitter about something like that!
I managed to win the lotto yesterday! Just out of curiosity, how many people win the lotto?

Edited b/c I accidently gave out wrong information. Thanks, KirbyCat.

Ghostlight, I do believe they said 100-500. Giving 1000 away through the lottery would be giving away half the house!

Great googly moogly, wtf was I thinking. You're right, of course. The actial quote:
"VIRTUAL LOTTO DETAILS:
So I emailed the Public Offices, and they said around 100-500 tickets are given out daily, and over 1000 people enter everyday, :)"
Don't know how I screwed that up. Thanks, Kirby Cat.

I won the virtual lottery yesterday and was in row K, I overheard the guy in front of me saying he was 10th in line in the morning and he was in row J. When I was 6th in line last week, I was row C. So it looks like the way they distribute the tickets is completely at random.
Well, yes, that's been stated many a time. (But I'm not sure how your example proves it: you were earlier in line and got the best seat of the 3, the gent in line, got a better seat than did you.)
Is everyone just so excited that the Public is extending the run until September 1?!?!?!

I finally won today. Yeah! Really looking forward to it.
At the end HAIR's run, I think during the first week of September, I was able to walk up to the box office at 6 pm and get a ticket for that evening's performance. Anybody think this will be the case at the end of this show's run?
^
No.
I'll be arriving in NY next Monday, so after opening night. On a week day, do you think it will still be safe to arrive in line around 3/4am, or will I need to camp out? I don't need to be first in line, I just want to be sure I get tickets.

Congratulations Mimmy! I've been trying the virtual lottery, didn't win today but will try again tomorrow.
yes, from everything out there, 3-4 am should get you in. (Remember, no one needs to be first as tickets are given out randomly!)
I'll be trying for virtual lottery too. Hope I win...then any leftover wishes go to the rest of you!
This could potentially be a dumb question.
How long does it take them to distribute tickets once they open at 1am? I plan on getting in line around midnight, so I presume I'd be towards the front. I'm only in the city for a hot second and I'm looking to catch a matinee as well.

Idina...I think midnight is going to be way overkill. Think you are going to be unnecessarily waiting more then you have to.
If you are in the very front of the line...it should be possible for you to get to a 2pm matinee. Think you are going to be really tired by the end of the afternoon before you even get to Into the Woods that night at 8pm.
I won today for tonight's performance! Unfortunately, as a NYU student, I have zero dollars to my name. If anyone is willing to make an offer, feel free to message me. I will be in the area until 6:15pm.

I also have a rookie question...
I'll be coming in from out-of-town (Philly) and will be getting to the park at around 3:30 am. I've seen lots of advice to bring a pillow/blanket/chair/sleeping bag if you're camping out, but then my problem is that I'll be stuck with that stuff during the show since it's not like I can head home to stash it. Anyone have any experience in dealing with extraneous stuff-- luggage checks that are open late, etc.? Is it better just to rent a chair, and if so, how early do those rentals start?
Where are you staying in New York City? I mean, you must be getting a hotel room, right? If not, what are you planning to do after the show?

Taking the train back to Philly. Too cheap for a hotel especially when I'll have to be at work the next morning. I'll just sleep in my cubicle. :)

Brian, thank you! So do you think 2-3am is still a safe time?
Wow, slightlyobsessed, you picked the right name! As far as where to leave your possessions, there was a thread on this site about that, and I believe people had some good suggestions. If you do a search for luggage or something like that, it might turn up.
Edited to add: This is one of the businesses mentioned:

I have NOT tried them myself, so this is not an endorsement. Best of luck!

Thanks, Mac! I'll admit the screen name is left over from my high school theater days, but once a fanatic, always a fanatic, apparently. The train to Philly is only about 2.5 hours, so it's really not a hardship, and the lost hours of sleep are nothing compared to Manhattan room rates.
Thanks for the suggestion about previous threads. Though a lot were theater specific, some had suggestions of hotels who might take bags that I'll have to explore (this one in particular: https://forum.broadwayworld.com/readmessage.php?thread=1045185#4273623 in case anyone else is looking).
I also found the Schwartz place when I was researching, but they close at 11 pm, which will be tough if not impossible. Unfortunately the Penn Station bag check and various others close even earlier. Maybe I'll just travel light.
Or bring stuff that isn't worth bringing home.
