Oh, my gawd. You do realize most responses of the last 2 pages have just been railing against YOU, yes? You DON'T seem to think everyone's entitled to their own opinion since you keep referring to them as "biased" and you argue with everyone. Stop taking their bait.
BTW....I have absolutely NO feelings about this man. Don't like him, don't dislike him.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

That’s your biased opinion. I don’t find him selfish or immature in any way. I’ve met him several times and he’s been nothing but humble and gracious. And, no, I’m not trying to come off like he’s a personal friend. I just find him to be an incredibly sweet andtalented young man who has a long and successful career ahead of him. I’m not trying to convince or sway anyone who doesn't feel the same way. As I said, everyone is entitled to their opinion. But, as a long time theater fan, I would never root for anyone’s failure. That sentiment is born out of envy and jealousy. And, in Ben’s case, possibly a dash of anti-semitism. So his father is in the business and opened a few doors for him. So what? What aspiring performer wouldn’t take advantage of the situationgiven the opportunity? But once you get your foot in the door, you have to have the talent to back it up. And, in my opinion, Ben Platt has the talent in spades."
Where to begin. First of all.. I do not know where you get the anti-semitism from. I have been Jewish all my life and I have always found him off putting. I also hate JLO and it has nothing to do with the fact that she is Puerto Rican. You are perhaps the one with those hateful tendencies since you're the only one putting that out there. I am glad you're a long time theater fan and that you have met him and he has been nice to you. Why shouldn't he be? I think people just do not like his public persona ( his creation by the way). He is very talented. But he is not deserving of this phony paid for career with a "Residency" and tours that don't sell.. but somehow according to his social bubble they always appear sold out and he thinks of himself as some type of Elvis. I don't think anyone is really rooting for his failure. But for the failure of a path that is bought and paid for in the grand way his appears to be.

You need to take a breath. I was clearly being sarcastic and have been defending Platt.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
Will the grosses for this residency be made available? Hopefully that serves as a wake up to call to Platt.

I would think the grosses would be published given it's at a Broadway theater for at least a week. In the past, Melissa Etheridge (Circle in the Square), David Chappelle (Lunt-Fontanne), El Mago Pop (Barrymore) residencies all published their weekly grosses.

First off, if you’re Jewish, then, unless you’re a self-hating Jew, my comment about “and possibly a dash of anti-semitism” obviously wouldn’t apply to you. And I didn’t say that everyone who dislikes him is anti-semetic. In response to your comment, “But he is not deserving of this phony paid for career with a "Residency" and tours that don't sell.. “ that’s your opinion, and as vitriolic and rooted in envy as it may be, you’re entitled to it. I think he’s more than deserving of the success he has achieved (have you won a Tony?) and whatever success he may achieve in the future. I don’t equate ticket sales and hit records with a person’s talent. Nor a Tony win, for that matter. There have been plenty of critically acclaimed shows that have closed early due to lack of ticket sales. Does that make them any less excellent? Whether he sells out all 18 shows at The Palace or not (and I suspect he won’t, very few entertainers could), it doesn’t change my opinion that he’s a phenomenalonce-in-a-generation talent with a long and successful career ahead of him.

I don’t think anyone is arguing with most of what you’re saying. And there’s a difference of opinion as to how he got where he thinks he is. You just got very defensive. I don’t understand where you were trying to go with your anti-semitism comment or calling a stranger in this chat a self hating Jew.. I really don’t. But that’s ok. Maybe I’m misreading. Go enjoy Ben. He is playing the Palace. It’s been renovated you know…………

You’re definitely misreading. I didn’t call anyone a self-hating Jew. I said that unless you were, my comment obviously wouldn't apply to you.

No no, that is not an opinion. That is backed up my his unsold tours and underperforming albums. And if you yourself (his BIGGEST fan) think he can't sell 18 shows at the Palace, why is he doing 18 shows at the Palace? Nobody is questioning his talent for singing, but... they would like to hear him sing the words of other people. Because when he's writing his own stuff? Nobody really cares...
As for him having a Tony? Well... so does Aaron Tveit. Ben doesn't offer anything OVERLY special and trying to call him a "Once in a generation talent" is like... GURL you've gotta get a grip. I'm sure you don't look anything like him, so he's not gonna have sex with you. You can stop trying to fluff him.
I think people's issue with him, is his being handed opportunity and venues that far out scale his demand. MSG was papered heavily. Radio City was papered heavily. This residency is being papered, on TDF, prices are being dropped on the ticket website.
I don't know why you are so upset with US pointing out these issues instead of his management putting him in these situations. He could have VERY nice numbers at a smaller venue possibly even for 18 shows, but they put him on that stage of a 50% empty theatre for him to do his show and then it comes back on him for not being able sell a venue when it's his management's fault. They set the ticket prices, they set the gigs and they don't CARE if it makes him look bad because their money comes off the top.
Platt is not the only former Evan Hansen to be romantically involved with another. Strange, but true.
There are some wild dynamics going on here. Likely none of us know Platt personally or professionally. He may be annoying, he could be self involved, he may well be a jerk, you may hate his singing or acting, you may dislike that his dad is a successful producer, you may think he’s undeservedly trying to be a star- frankly, he would not be unique on Broadway in many of those. But as far as I’m aware, he’s neither abusive nor malicious. He’s just an actor whose mere presence seems to cause people here to foam at the mouth.
And this is an actor I’m largely ambivalent about. But Christ, some people here are carrying on as if Platt came to your home and shot your dog. If you don’t like him, he’s remarkably easy to avoid.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
I'm very clearly laying out that his management is setting him up for failure with venues and ticket prices his audience can't fill/pay for and you're again lashing out at me being a Hater.

Why do you find the need to continuously ridicule and post negative comments about him and his management? Who hurt you?

Management isn't going to comp your meet and greet tickets, settle down.
Do YOU think it's a smart idea to keep putting him in venues he can't even come close to selling out? Why are you caping for a management team that doesn't have integrity as an artist for who they manage?

You haven’t heard ANYTHING about Ben Platt, or anyone else for that matter, from any “behind-the-scenes creatives” because you don’t know any. You’re a nobody and always will be. You’re just a jealous, envious, no-talent, wannabe, HATER."
8:20 AM and the Mezz looks nearly completely unsold. They’ve released front row balcony, evidently, and there are now (lousy) orchestra seats where there were none at all this weekend.
That mezz situation is shocking. Surely everyone in the balcony will be moved down (and if they’re smart, they will close it off altogether). I swear I don’t hate the guy, but damn, none of these shows have sold well by opening night. I was expecting things to fill up by now.
If anyone goes tonight, can you please share a photo of side mezzanine? It says obstructed view from side mezz aisle (Mezz AA1, A1, B1, C1, D1, E1, F1) since it says there's a railing. It says the same thing on the other side Mezz AA2, A2, B2, C2, D2, E2, F2), etc.
