Between the vitriol toward Platt (a performer I’m not even particularly fond of!) and the pearl clutching over the idea the sacred Palace would be sullied by him performing there for 3 weeks, this thread is nuts.

You're right to be frustrated: the top price the final week of PARADE was $497 and the top price for DEH during his run was $448. They should go higher, they're leaving money on the table! :)
Please go channel your performative anger towards something more productive.
I’m not sure where you get “anger” out of me. I’m confused and disappointed, but that’s because I was expecting/hoping for something “bigger” (like a Gaga or a Streisand).
I do think his appeal and pop singer side is limited to a certain niche. If they can afford to drop $375 on him, have at it. I haven’t paid that much for a show/performer. But that does feel excessive for a performer. I did pay $300 for a day-of tenth-row Streisand ticket. But that was mostly to say “I got to see Streisand.”
Platt is no Streisand.
That said, thanks for judging my posts as performative. What is this, ATC?
Streisand has recently and repeatedly said she’s retired from performing. I doubt she was ever really a real option here, so there’s no point in bringing her up.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
1)Certainly, performers have said “farewell”, only to not be done at all. If the price were right….
2)I brought her up (maybe others have, too?) because that’s the level of performer I thought we’d see open the place. A Gaga. A Sting. Another Springsteen show.
Oh, who cares? Unless something changed, every source has state this ISN'T necessarily what's re-opening the Palace. BUT so what if it is? If you don't want to see him and/or pay those prices, don't go. Im sure we can send help if the criminal with a gun pointed at your head hasn't left yet.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

It's similar to expectations when the shed opened VS what little has been there since, some due to pandemic. This is a huge disappointment for me, for many fans expecting more, but probably mostly for the people who sank 1billion + into the building I'm guessing? This is not what will earn their money back nor will the idea of retail on the ground in post pandemic.
For God’s sake, people. It’s a THREE. WEEK. RUN. Some of y’all are acting crazy on this good day, carrying on like Ben Platt is about to sully the good name of THEE Palace Theatre and immediately bankrupt the owners. It’s too much.
Don’t want to go? Don’t buy a ticket. I won’t be, and I recommend you join me. It’ll save tickets for people who want them. Just nastiness for nastiness’s sake.

My understanding is that TSX Broadway paid the Palace Theatre's owners (Nederlander & Stewart Lane) a large sum which covered all costs of raising the theatre, renovating it, and having it dark for 6 years, in exchange for the 30 feet of retail space on the ground level. TSX isn't getting a dime of ticketing revenue from the Palace, nor is Nederlander hurting for money after this project. And whether the retail space is utilized or sits empty isn't a concern of Nederlander.
This why theater people can't have nice things. You don't like Ben, don't go. But the constant trashing of his talent doesn't change the fact that he's talented - whether you like it or not. If he sells out it could create a precedent for "bigger names" to want to do concerts there. But sure, let's just burn it all down before its even re-opened.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I don't think anybody at any point has insulted his talent, they've commented on his ability to actually sell the Palace for 18 shows.
His talent is not in doubt. It’s just unfortunate that his friends and family (and I guess his reps?) are feeding his delusion that anyone gives an actual f**k about his original music. It’d be like Merman booking Carnegie Hall for 2 weeks to perform a program of soulful jazz and operatic arias!

If you'd waited a few weeks you could have gotten it much cheaper, I'm sure."
Maybe, but I have lots of money and enjoy spending it on things that I enjoy. But thanks for the tip, nonetheless.

I feel like you're delusional enough to have thought the Dear Evan Hansen movie would've won him an Oscar,

It would be delusional to think that after watching the film. However, there is no doubt in my mind that someone somewhere, maybe even Ben, thought this was a plausible outcome right up until the trailer was first seen. I suspect this is why he took it so hard when the movie was not received well. I genuinely think he thought it might have been his Streisand Funny Girl moment.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
