I don't know to whom that was directed (I expressly said it was not certain and explained why) but no, no tourist dependent show will rationally open this spring. Sorry but that's not a "thing."

I saw Diana in La Jolla, and while I enjoyed the performances by all the actors I just thought this show was okay. I thought the set looked cheap and was hoping they would update it if they ever moved to Broadway, which from the look of the pictures, they did not. I am happy that it is going to Netflix, but I could not imagine people paying Broadway prices for this show.

To be fair, I believe "Broadway prices" are a thing of the past and will be drastically lowered to draw back people to the theatre. Diana may survive (if they re-open) due to a lowered ticket price?

I own recorded performances of Company with Raul and NPH on iTunes and I cannot WAIT to see the production on Broadway! Had I not watched these versions, I probably wouldn't be as big of a fan of the show. I know the new Company is gender-swapped and has a different cast (although the NPH has Patti LuPone).. so depending on the person, recordings can actually make you want to see the show on stage.

Broadway prices will be a thing of the past when Broadway unions are a thing of the past and there are too many of those to count. And that's not counting theater owners who are not likely to renegotiate their leases. But I wish you were right.

With musicals, Diana may start a new trend, straight to Netflix.

I think the opposite will be true and Broadway going forward will be for the 1%. I mean, they are already doing it with The Music Man.  Why would tickets be dirt cheap when their industry has bled for more than a year? They cannot afford that.

Diana's average ticket price was $69 on Broadway. Do you think that was too high or did you think the average ticket price was higher than that? Not trying to be snarky, I think often people assume tickets are more expensive than they are .They see the headlines about Hamilton secondary market prices and assume that applies to everything.

Diana never opened on Broadway. There was no average price and the 9 preview prices don't count.

It seems clear to me that, in the theatre as elsewhere, there will not be a return to the status quo ante. How things will change is, like everything else, to be determined. But there is a lot of foundational error in some of the recent posts in this thread. 

First of all, Broadway is, for the most part, a commercial enterprise and also one in which (with few exceptions) each tub is on its own bottom so it is not going to make sense for shows to offer dramatically lower prices to draw people back in. That is suicidal. Second, unions are what makes Broadway so making them a thing of the past is also suicidal. Third, re landlords, there is not a lot to renegotiate. The lion's share of revenue to the owners is percentage based. Although yes there can be a bit of negotiation, it is so far from a major consideration as to be generally irrelevant. I could go on but in the words of Bette Midler ...

you can calculate an average ticket price during previews in the exact same way you do post-opening, and I guarantee you the producers and marketing team are looking at the ticket prices just as closely during previews as they do after previews. Doesn't matter if the show is in previews, it's still an indicator of what audiences are willing to pay.

@hotmail the problem is, a show cannot survive on $69. A show can capitalize preview losses but obviously that's not a sustainable model. And of course the reason for that sort of preview model is that you hope to open and get well reviewed so you become a must see show that CAN be sustainable. Would that we had some show that we could talk about this in a non-abstract way. Memo to Hogan: patience

I actually paid double that to watch it in La Jolla. It's a tiny theater so every seat was fairly pricey. 

I understand your sentiment, I have watched Harry Potter on a weekday for $50 for each part. But I meant it in regards for non-discounted Broadway prices in general, especially for a "big name" show like Diana.

I don't know, but the fan base for that show is so big and it's a popular title, I'm surprised it's not being considered for filming, it really should be.

With Beetlejuice, I'm surprised Warner Bros. (producers of the film and stage production) haven't tried to secure/promote this for their streaming service, or wherever their propertries lie in the streaming market.

My only question is, the only musical really so far on a streaming service was "Hamilton". That comes with all the baggage in fans, promos, etc. Hypothetically would "Flying Over Sunset" really going to get viewers to "Hulu"? I don't think so.

This can be literally summed up as "Diana's former protection offer thinks Prince Harry should speak out against Diana the Musical if he finds it objectionable." It's... nothing.
