So Tonatiuh and Luna were incredibly good, but Lopez was just "fine"? I've heard from some people who've attended early screenings she is GREAT and the film is also wonderful?? They didn't reveal much but they did throw superlatives her way...
The purpose of taking it to Sundance is getting a distributor who will buy it for a lot of money and then release it for all to see later this year.
They intentionally want it seen by a small audience of press, industry people, and people who make the pilgrimage to Park City. This is also a way of building buzz to have a curated group of people see it first and shape the general public’s perception of it. You can only make a first impression once etc
Digital screenings offer way too much leeway for piracy. Which is fine for a young filmmaker who made a movie on a shoestring budget, will be lucky if it gets acquired at a price higher than the budget, and can only benefit from it being seen in any format. But Spidey is made by people who usually work at the studio level and they obviously have high hopes for it.

This one is only available in-person, unfortunately. They don't want it actually out there."
That’s very smart of them to make sure it doesn’t get out for people to see."

So I take it by this comment, you did not like it?
I’ve heard talk that they’ve gutted the score. I hope this is hyperbole, I’ve always thought Kiss was one of Kander/Ebb’s best and would be sad to lose too much of that gloriousness!!!!
Yeah, wouldn’t it be sad if the majority of the score was cut from this and all that beautiful music in the jail got thrown out. Of course I’m not saying it is, I’m just saying wouldn’t it just be a reeeeeeal f’in shame if more than half the score was gutted.
Sometimes I hate Fosse for establishing this “all the musical numbers need to be staged in a theatrical way” for musicals to work on film. It seems like Condon & Marshall lean on this too much. If “She’s A Woman,” “Day After That,” and “I Do Miracles” get cut - add ”Dear One” too, they’re missing a lot of beautiful character development to stick with the overdone concept of relegating numbers to theatrical presentation only. I don’t think any screenwriter could replace those songs with dialogue and telegraph the same message and emotion.
If we're talking about songs like "Bluebloods," "I Draw the Line" and the endless reprises of "Over the Wall" being cut I'm not going to be too distressed. If we're talking about songs like "Dear One," "You Could Never Shame Me" or "Anything For Him" getting cut then I don't understand the point of even making this film.

Hypothetically, you would be very disappointed to know that 2 of those 3 songs don't make it.

I'll be very upset if "Dear One" isn't in the movie. And I don't think anyone can say whether it is or not at this point, since this might be one of the questions targeted by the early screenings.
Well I didn't sign an NDA (and didn't see it) but yes, I have it on full authority, that most (I'm not sure if all?) of the non-movie fantasy music is cut. Which really made me disheartened but of course isn't remotely surprising (this was the first thing I asked my source months back.) And it makes complete sense, but I was hoping they would have found a clever way to still use the majority of the "book songs" instead of just doing the expected thing of "Jail=realistic so no singing, movie fantasies=singing." Oh well, I'm still excited, and scared.
