I think Jordan is super talented. I'm sure he will be fantastic.
Nothing will ever bring me back to this show, as I find it to be reprehensibly cynical, vaguely homophobic, and without a single likable character no matter WHO plays the roles.
That said - When I finally saw it, I saw Zach Piser, and I thought he was quite amazing - he certainly sings it better than any clips or recordings I've seen of anyone else including (or especially) Platt. He is quite grounded, and gives a totally honest portrayal of a horribly written character who should never be the focal point of a musical that young people are idolizing ... No wonder our world is so cynical, if this is what we offer our youth -- at least the generation who came of age with Rent had the benefit of HOPE in that story and LOVE in its characters.

Who? You do know Ben Platt was the original Evan, right? Who was the hot as heck gay man you're referring to?
I didnt like any of the characters in Rent - which is why I hated the show. And would have described them similarly to what you said about DEH.
They dont feel DEH because he allows this lie to fester, they love it because they feel for his suffering, before, during and after. This is the way they perceive their lives. The more connected we are to technology, truly the more alone we feel.

Reba in Annie Get Your Gun was stunt casting and she was a revelation. We now have a Real housewife in Chicago... If you’re going to worry, there’s where I’d focus."
That's how I felt when Al Roker was in Waitress. I was like, huh, weird choice, but I'll give him a chance. He was one of my favorite Old Joes (behind Dakin Matthews and Larry Marshall). He was so great, whereas Cameron made me cringe at the beginning during "Someone Gets Hurt". He did well after that...but this was a misstep on Mean Girls part.
I never thought of DEH as this generation’s Rent. It’s so true. DEH is very much loved by teens and young adults. My mom’s friend’s teen grandkids were so jealous we were seeing the show.
The 90s had anti establishment and disease. The 2010s have loneliness and isolation due to over connection.

Ben Platt is gorgeous. Y’all acting like he’s some ugly troll. Yeesh.
My entire point is it’s how you play the character that transforms him into what he is, not how you look. Platt did it, and Fisher can as well.

I hope Ben Platt (who certainly reads these boards) is having a good day.

I guess they’re making a new trailer for advertising his run? Someone just posted this on Twitter from when they were in the Music Box offices. He’s sounding good though, I’m liking it

This is why I’d called it stunt casting. Using his name to draw people in.
^but that's only true if thats the ONLY reason a "name" is cast. If not, no one well known would ever be anything BUT stunt casting.

Has anyone determined whether or not Jordan Fisher is performing in Wednesday and Saturday matinees?

From the website: “Jordan Fisher will perform as Evan Hansen Tuesday through Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees. Zachary Noah Piser will perform as Evan Hansen on Wednesday and Saturday matinees.”

He was replaced about 30 minutes into the show tonight suddenly. I'm not sure what happened.

Anyone know what happened? Please report back if he’s in tomorrow evening!
Poor guy, he’s got so much going on right now.
From a tweet I saw of his earlier, it seems he flew back to LA and came back this morning. He’s been doing press for the new To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, plus being in the show, so he must be burning the candle at both ends right now.
I hope he’s okay and I hope he rests up and doesn’t force himself to come back too quickly.
Out again tonight, according to Twitter.
He’s been active on social media today but no word about the show. Hmm.

I went tonight 2/5/20 showing with my mother, we bought tickets awhile back before Fisher was even announced so it didn't really matter who we saw. We had saw Ben Platt already and enjoyed it enough where my mom had told me she wanted to see it again just to enjoy the story again.
So I surprised her with tickets and we both enjoyed it still with the understudy. You could hear some people chatting and groaning when the show started but it seemed to fade rather quickly.

Jordan was out again tonight. They didn’t mention it on the cast board but they made an announcement right before the show started. Zach Piser went on for Evan.
Interesting. Have to wonder what’s going on with no mention of it on social media but been posting the past few days. I hope he is ok!

So has anyone seen him in the role? I saw Zach 2 weeks ago for a Wed matinee and was curious about Jordan because my wife is seeing him next Wed.

He was also in a new Super Bowl commercial for Domino's so he was heavily pushing that earlier this week too.
Maybe he lost his voice? It is odd that he's so active on social media but doesn't mention being out of the show.
RWPrincess - I just saw that commercial last night and was like - Wow, he really is all over the place right now.
It is very odd he wouldn't acknowledge it with even an "I'm so sorry I've been out, trying to get better" tweet or something.
I will say (no shade to Jordan, who I am so looking forward to seeing) any audience who does get to see Zach Piser's Evan is seeing one hell of a performance. I've seen him twice in the role and he's absolutely incredible.

I have to agree about Zach. I was a little upset about Jordan, but was very impressed with Zach the moment he started. He really gives it his all and really makes the role his own. I've seen the show a few times (Broadway, tour, London) and saw a different Evan in Zach which made me appreciate the performance.

Won the lottery for tomorrow evening - will report back on who is playing Evan. Was looking forward to seeing Jordan but glad to hear Zach is great too if Jordan continues to be out! Taking a friend who’s never seen it so want her to have an amazing experience with a great Evan! Everyone I’ve seen in the past has been fantastic (Ben Platt, Noah Galvin, and Andrew Barth Feldman) so I guess you can’t go toooo wrong!
