I’ve never found him to match the comedic skills he displayed in The Book of Mormon, but I’ve also yet to see him in a role of that caliber since then, so I’m curious to see him and Andrew team up again with material worthy of their talent as live performers.

His Cunningham was the most over-the-top in terms of selling the jokes and naming him funny. Overactor? Give me Will Blum, Jared Gertner or Cody Jamison Strand anytime.

That would narrow it down to Schoenfeld, Jacobs, Lyceum, Imperial."
I'm going to take a wild guess and say either Jacobs or Imperial"
It’s the James Earl Jones!
Alex Timbers really keeps himself busy!!! I’m excited to see this one!

I would actually assume the opposite. It's had several regional and international productions, had a 6-month NYC run off Broadway and there's a longer gap between its original NY production and this one than several other shows that have been considered revivals (Assassins, Hedwig, Wit, etc.). So I would be very surprised if they call this a new musical (unless they make major changes to the original text, which is possible and could warrant them saying this is a new enough show).

Yeah I know that these two were workshopping the show but to what extent is unclear. One would think with how this season is currently looking they would want to petition it in under the "classics" rule (less competition at present though rumors are that is very likely to change) but they have outwardly stated in their little announcement video it is a NEW musical with a seemingly deliberate emphasis on the NEW that stood out immediately to me. That's for the committee to decide though so I doubt we will have a clear answer until December-January at the earliest.
It would almost certainly count as a Revival at the Tonys unless they have done substantial rewrites. Like...throwing out half the show-level rewrites.
From a marketing perspective they're positioning it as a NEW musical, but that's different than awards campaigning. In the video of Gad & Rannells, they say it's a "brand-new musical" and the website copy calls it "A HILARIOUS NEW MUSICAL ABOUT AN UNINTENTIONALLY HILARIOUS NEW MUSICAL!"
Is this just a two man show? Only asking because Gad was notorious for flubbing his lines during BOM.

Gad is talented but since BOM, he's clearly been given a loose leash in terms of being directed, so in most roles it's just more of the same. He's good in Avenue 5, but his performance benefits from everyone else working on a heightened level, and a large ensemble cast. Just two people? This is going to be interested.

I also loved him in The Comedians with Billy Crystal. I think this sounds fun - I’ve no clue about the actual show - but them plus Timbers? I’d see it.
Curious if they’ll have standbys and I think it would be pretty cool if they were to get Chris Fitzgerald and Jeremy Shamos back for that.
