There was c a code posted recently in the Discount Codes thread. I think it was AKIMBO, but you may wish to double-check. I used it last week to get tickets in March.
Saw it yesterday via Lottery Seats (Row BB Orchestra Left) and wow what a show. Enjoyed it thoroughly, its such a weird interesting little show. I've got to see Funny Girl (with Lea), Some Like It Hot, and Music Man within the past several months and this has been my favorite. Also, view from those seats are great (but I'm also on the taller side).
Well, I’ve finally seen this one and while I enjoyed it, I can’t say I’m as enthusiastic as the rest of you. It was nice. Victoria Clark was excellent, and I also loved Justin Cooley. Alli Mauzey was very funny, but I don’t get the adoration of Bonnie Milligan. She has a strong voice, but her acting just isn’t great. I find Stephen Boyer to be the exact opposite.
Honestly, I could talk about the set, the costumes, the music and all the rest, but “nice” is kind of all I’ve got on this one. Yes, go live your life while you’re living and have a great adventure, but it all seemed very off-broadway (I’m aware that it started off-broadway and this is not a bad thing as I enjoy that, but this feels misplaced). It’s an original musical, and to me, that’s why people are willing to sing its praises and claim it’ll win all the Tonys when the show is just “good.”
Feels like it’ll be another An American in Paris vs. Fun Home Tony year with Some Like It Hot (or even & Juliet) going up against this smaller guy. One has more sparkle and the other has more heart. I think I’m rooting for sparkle this time.
If Some Like It Hot wins, I'll eat my hat. It was cute, but.....not much else.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

I have to echo DramaTeach on this one. I see Kimberly being raved about on these boards and I don't quite get it. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was a lovely, little show with some great performances (by the way, while Bonnie Milligan is great, I thought Alli Mauzey delivered a stronger featured performance).
But "nice" really is the word that describes the whole thing. It's not quite excellent... not quite gripping and riveting... it's just... fine. I can't recall a single tune from the show for you, which isn't to say the music was bad or tuneless, it just wasn't memorable. Again, just... "nice."
I say this as someone who saw The Band's Visit probably a dozen times and sobbed my way through Fun Home (just to borrow the two shows mentioned on page 2 of this thread). I pretty much always root for the underdog "little musical that could" on Broadway. I'll just about always take great, original work on a smaller stage over a splashy mega-musical with garbage material. But Kimberly never really caught me in any way that I would tell someone that they absolutely need to go see it.
That said, I also loathed Some Like It Hot. Seems I may very well be rooting for & Juliet for the crown at the Tonys this season.
Victoria Clark posted on Instagram that she will be out March 7 - March 12; returning March 14. Her understudy Colleen Fitzpatrick will be on for her :)

Well darn. I bought a ticket for March 7 a couple of days ago and this information was not disclosed at Telecharge (nor is it as of this moment). Off to see about swapping.
And yes, I'm aware her understudy does a fine job, yadda, yadda, yadda.

You can exchange for another date. That should not be an issue.
Curious how the road presenters vote. I don't think they vote for &Juliet because that is guaranteed to get a successful tour. Some Like it Hot would definitely tour better than Akimbo, but I feel like it's also already likely to get a tour.
I saw this evening's performance specifically for Colleen Fitzpatrick's portrayals of Kimberly and it was brilliant. Completely different and original from Victoria's, full of bright eyed wonder and had a hysterical sense of sarcasm that she added. So nice to see originality. An absolutely beautiful performance that I felt lucky to be at.
A wonderful audience that seemed to be about 90% full. I only heard one pair of audience members pull the "I did not pay to see an understudy" speech and left 5 minutes before the show started. Colleen was very well received by the audience and excited oozed out of her at her well deserved standing ovation!
Saw this last night, hadn’t read that Victoria Clark was going to be out so I was a little disappointed, but the show was great. Nothing to add that hadn’t already been said, but o found the whole thing incredibly moving. Especially the ending.
one funny note, and spoilers here (does this forum have spoiler tags)
The part where Debra reveals what the 4 characters sexuality is to cut through the drama, there was a big laugh that settled and one guy let out a huge guffaw that ended up breaking the whole cast. Started with one, and then spread to everyone. Bonnie Milligan was in tears trying to get it together. Ended up being a solid 1-2 minutes before she could get her line out and she still just managed. And had to end up moving Justin Cooley back to his mark because they both missed it while laughing. Was pretty great
Happy to hear the positive reviews for Colleen. I've heard they added a second cover for Clark now as well.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
Just got out of the matinee and also felt it was “nice.” I liked the book, not so much the score. The ending was sweet and did make me emotional, but overall nothing really stuck out or made me want to see this show again.
Best Musical is a done deal in 2023. Just perfect… from start to finish.
The full cast was in tonight, and Chris Fenwick conducted. Vicki Clark sounds as fresh as can be after a very well-deserved vacay. Justin Cooley - adorable, the most complete performance I’ve seen a Jimmy alum give on Broadway. Bonnie Milligan was getting all the laughs tonight and then some.

I found the parents to be too broad and cartoony. They said and did things that were so cruel they were unforgivable. I wanted the show to focus more on Kimberly, who was so intriguing and heartbreaking to me. I was way more interested in her journey and her relationship with Seth. I felt all the other stuff was underdeveloped, farfetched, and ultimately uninteresting. Victoria Clark was fabulous…joyful, silly, awkward, intelligent, and very sweet. Her story left me leaving the theatre so sad inside. I really felt for her."
Beware. Unpopular opinion below.
I found the parents so over-the-top awful and stupid that it took me completely out of the show. I hated them, and then we'd learn more, and it would get even more stupid and/or cruel. I was ready for Kimberly to borrow from the musical revival I'd seen the previous night and sing, "Epiphany" before doing something deserving to them with Debra's chemicals.
Show choir kids? Didn't care, and Debra's joke about them was revealing because, while a funny line and delivery by Bonnie Milligan, it also pretty much dismissed them from the show.
I've never been to a show where the audience repeatedly said, "Awww," after some dopey teenager says an insensitive thing to Kimberly (excusable, although only Seth is really her friend) or her parents do yet another terrible thing (not excusable, especially by the end). Kimberly's plight could have been compelling and felt genuine. Instead, the show seemed to be making the same treacly plea for sympathy for her that Kimberly - as played by Victoria Clark - didn't really seem to want for herself. Bookwriter David Lindsay-Abaire basically got her a treehouse.
Well, I don't agree, but I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the show.

i enjoyed the show very much, but i agree 1000% that the portrayal of the parents was such a giant, glaring miss. cartoonish and one-dimensional, yes, but also so over the top horrible to be unforgivable. i believe i said this when i saw it off bway and got some pushback here, so yes its an unpopular opinion, again, it did not ruin the show for me by any stretch but yikes. was hoping this got toned down/adjusted for bway but i guess not.
