Be careful! You can't suggest that name might be good for a role around these parts without having to hear all about her being the worst performer to ever step on a stage because someone didn't enjoy their night at ALNM!
On the plus side this means I'll have more cash for other shows since it would have to be a pretty amazing replacement for me not to opt for a refund (and I'd probably be asking for a refund on the remaining shows in my subscription as well). Add in hotel and transportation costs and this could save me a bunch of money.
Audra did multiple readings of SPIDER WOMAN over the years when Terrence was still alive. John Tiffany directed her in one in 2015 with Alan Cumming and Steven Pasquale. I don’t see at least 2 of those castings being right nowadays (due to skillset, race, or age among other things).
Re: Tuesday Announcement — KenCen’s new show? Or of a Bway revival of Spider Woman?

The Tuesday announcement will be the replacement show at KenCen, to run from May 12-21.

There was a workshop/reading of Spider Woman with Audra, Alan Cumming, and Stephen Pasqual several years back. It never moved forward into a full Broadway revival, but I think that's a pretty epic trio imo (and we need Alan back on Bway, plus he'd prob sell a decent amount of tix thanks to the surprise hit The Traitors). I think you ideally want a sort of "grand dame" of theater for Aurora, and Audra feels like one of the only people of this current moment who fits the bill. I'm actually crossing my fingers that this rumored revival does feature these three actors, even though Im sure its different.
Amazing how much people seem to forget Aurora is a dance-heavy role. It was created for Chita Rivera, who at 60, was still at her dancing peak and was fully showcased. I do not see Audra, spinning in a cage, wearing a bird-showgirl costume, and being lifted by male dancers.
DeBose would be wise to stay away from any other roles originated by Chita or Rita, for sake of comparison. Especially where she has her pick of the litter on Bway right about now
At one time I thought she’d be good for this, but I really can’t see it nowadays. Also don’t really see her selling tickets to the masses in a show with as limited name value as Spider Woman, unless she had a costar of greater or equal stature (which seems highly unlikely).

Exactly, and vocally I think even the Vanessa Williams keys are too low for her. I have no interest in a soprano sounding Aurora with pristine vocals. Rivera and William’s smoky vocals are iconic.
Ariana DeBose is the clear, obvious choice for the moment. She is a newly minted Oscar winner, Tony host, and rising star. You need to star cast Aurora.
Karen Olivo could sing the absolute crap out of this, but not sure they are a big enough name at the moment (and nto sure they want to be back on Bway). I would also personally love to see Mandy Gonzalez interpret the role, but also prob not a big enough name for what the producers will want. Ariana can sing, dance, and act the role.
And they are probably a bit older than what most people would think of for the roles, but Robin de Jesus and Danny Burstein could do a great job with the men.
Strange that a Broadway revival conflict is being cited here. It seems highly unlikely such a production would be happening until the fall at the earliest, how could a short-running KenCen production months earlier be a conflict?
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
Right before this was announced I heard speculation that this could've been the Broadway show Rachel Zegler was hinting at, but I don't know the show so I'm not sure if there's a role she'd fit. That and Evita really seems much more likely imo
I just assumed all along that this Kennedy Center KOSW production was intending to transfer to Broadway if it was well recieved --- like the Bernadette "Follies"

There's a belief that multiple high-profile productions within a year of each other can hurt buzz & interest and draw comparisons. The first-class rightsholders have the right to shut down these productions, similar to the MOCKINGBIRD situation. Some producers don't care, some do.
What's weird is that the KenCen was granted rights to produce it in the first place, when the commercial rightsholder also controls the bookwriter's estate. The "prolonged conversations with the rights holders" might have included the Broadway entity reimbursing KenCen for any expenses incurred related to pre-production/cancellation, cutting them into that production as a co-producer, or (as I mentioned before) an agreement to allow the KenCen to present the tour or future Broadway-replica production.
This is a unique situation and we'll hopefully learn more soon.

I don’t know…Valentin is explicitly stated to be 27. He’s a young idealist, and I think it’s pretty important that he’s younger than Molina, who’s more beaten down by life. Burstein reads very middle-aged and also has a pretty sweet, charming demeanor in everything I’ve seen him in. Valentin needs to be young and fiery, not mild and middle-aged.

From a reliable source or from someone yelling online?
Zegler would be SO young for the part at 21. The character Aurora is supposed to be a gay icon and an established movie star. Chita and Carol Lawrence were 60, Vanessa Williams was 31, and onscreen Sônia Braga was 35.

Make it a Grey Gardens revival or bust.
No but seriously, what are we going to get? Somebody leak it please."
Carmen in Grey Gardens is the only replacement I'll accept.
Wouldn’t a Kennedy Center launch generate good publicity for a potential revival? It’s not like the musical is super well known outside of theatre audiences. Unless they weren’t sure whether they wanted identical casts.

Danny Burstein would be wrong for this. Robin de Jesus is a good choice for Molina. Josh Segarra or Rodney Ingram would be well suited for Valentin.
