I've stopped by the box office a couple times, in the middle of the day, to see if they have rush tix left - and both times they told me they sold all their rush tickets 1st thing in the morning. Even with the strong ticket sales, I wouldn't have pegged this as a show where people line up to get rush right when the box office opens - but I guess that's just how popular it is, apparently!
Any insight into what time people have been arriving / how long the line has been?
Sheesh, my rush experience was so easy I questioned whether even to post, as I thought I would be stating the obvious since no rush difficulties had been previously reported (and frankly, I did not think this would occur with this play). Based upon the thread thus far, I see I was fortunate. My experience: for the Wednesday January 4th matinee, I got to the box office at about 10:15AM - one person was in front of me at the window, but he was not there for rush. I got one front row orchestra aisle seat (A2) for that day's matinee with zero problem. Lovely box office person indicated I "came at a good time". No one behind me as I left. Beginning and end of how I nabbed a rush seat. Don't know if this was a fluke - though I also realize Wednesday matinees are usually a bit easier.
For those wondering about the seat itself, being so close to stage was heaven for me given Stoppard's wordiness and the exceptional cast. A table and chair down stage a bit blocked a little of the upstage in first scene but did not bother me or take anything away as the tableau was otherwise so expansive-- I didn't feel I missed the "big picture." The only strain from my seat was to read the scrim with the family tree on it when it did appear, but since the ability to keep the characters straight as they age (and in instances) and are replaced by other actors was important to me, I skimmed the play earlier and got a handle on all that beforehand. With Stoppard, for better or worse, I usually expect some prep work. Perhaps a bit too obsessive, I also kept the family tree provided in the Playbill open on my lap during the show.
Wow, strange! That happened to you on the 4th, and first time I stopped by to ask was that Sunday, the 8th. I would've guessed the weekend made the difference, but the other time I stopped by was yesterday (Thursday) and the same thing.
Maybe it WAS a fluke when you went. And it wasn't even that cold last week, was it?
Last week I went to the TKTS booth and before the fees bought two tickets which were $100.00ea and ended up Orch third row center. I was very surprised.
"I hope your Fanny is bigger than my Peter."
Mary Martin to Ezio Pinza opening night of Fanny.
I went to the box office this Wednesday at 10am. There were about ten people ahead of me. I got a rush ticket, 4th row orchestra, one seat off the right aisle, for the matinee. Great seat. I haven't been a fan of some of Stoppard's more recent work, but am very glad to have caught this: It is a soulful, inspired, poignant, and (unfortunately) timely play.
Thanks for the reports, everyone! Now it's my turn:
I ended up rushing the show this morning. I got there at about 8:45, and there was a group of 3 people who got there mere seconds before me - so they were 1st in line. People tricked in over the hour, and by the time box office opened there were maybe 15-20 people in line? (I forgot to count, but it something like that)
The group in front of me got 3 tix to the evening show, and I also needed 3 tix to the evening show (my friend was with me). We were only given the option to have the seats be slightly separate: 2 seats together, and 1 seat directly in front. Side-orchestra, rows J & K.
Has anyone rushed this recently on a weekend? I’m wondering if I should be fine showing up at 8 am on a Saturday, or if I should shoot for even earlier. Thanks!
I asked about rush tickets when I went to the box office earlier this week, and the woman working there told me they were typically all gone within an hour of the box office opening.
An update today! My wife and I tried for rush tickets at multiple shows today, and we finally got two for the evening performance of Leopoldstadt tonight. Rush demand for this show has plummeted.
We got them at 11am for the 7pm show. No line. They were $35 each, and we got front row orchestra! Row A seats 1 and 3. Full view but seat 1 was definitely better than 3. At one point the actors were a foot or less in front of us.
Great show, great price, great seats. Highly recommend.
Rushed this today. By 10am the line was about 20 people long, but I think everyone got tickets even if many people bought 2. So I’m not sure if there’s a limit of available rush.
All tickets were in the balcony, partial view (behind poles maybe?). Even though orchestra and mezz had available seats on Telecharge, it seems that the production is no longer giving “good” seats out for rush, which I can only guess is due to end of run/Tony wins. Those good seats must be selling for face value during the day of the show I guess.
I rushed this past Saturday, got there around 8:30am and was 8th in line. The 1st 3 people got there around 7am. When the box office open over 40 people. It seems a good amount did get tickets. Note that rush tickets are in balcony.
