Are they really just going to rotate T. & Trent in the role for 3 months?
And is that even legal?
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
No, they have to name SOMEONE as playing that part as well as give them a new contract. We might not get a "name" - but since when does that role NEED a name? It doesn't.
It IS possible that they get permission from Equity to do something else - but that would still entail an increase in pay to whomever is playig the role.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I am pretty sure they cannot rotate understudies for too long. Perhaps they will get creative and do what the producers of Chicago have done between “name” actors and have subs come in for three weeks or so at a time, something like that.
This is would be pretty strange though, especially for three months. Perhaps their top choices all fell through and they don’t want to replace their beloved, Tony-winning Hermes with just anybody, but it’s really not a hard role to cast. Just pick someone, geez.
Is he taking over the role permanently, or still just for the summer and then someone else will take over the role in September?"
Seems unclear at this time, but we do know that Reid's promotion doesn't indicate anything either way. Because, as discussed above, the producers were required by Equity to promote one of them, after the allotted time had passed. So the fact that he's being promoted doesn't necessarily mean they plan to stick with him.
My guess is that they are still looking for another replacement; as we know, there were rumors swirling around. Plus, if they were specifically looking for a "name" or at least someone who might generate buzz, they have no incentive to stop looking now, just because they didn't find someone before having to promote Reid.
(BTW, I have no opinion about Reid and don't mean to denigrate his performance - I'm saying his promotion seemed obligatory not because he doesn't deserve it on his own merits, but because the timing makes it obvious that it was obligatory from the producers' perspective; if they planned to promote him on their own terms, they wouldn't have waited this long)
Odd scenario, but would T. remain their dance captain? I'd assume they'd have to bring on another cover for Hermes and Hades now.

Tom Hewitt is also taking over as Hades through next month (I saw him in September and he was fantastic, so if you can see him, go!) and since T. had been covering for Patrick, I wonder if they had to wait until Tom was available before they could bump T. up to Hermes full-time.
you found your heart but left a part of you behind <3
Saw Hadestown tonight; last time I saw it was during Broadway previews. Show is tight and in great shape.
Timothy Oliver Reid struck me as the direct opposite of Andre de Shields-- his voice was booming and beautiful, but that charm, wry wink, wasn't there. I dont know who decided to do him up with the thick moustache but he looked like Mr Peanut. And I really really missed "aiiiiiight"
No shade to Tom Hewitt, but I missed Patrick Page. And no shade to Amber Gray, but Jewelle Blackman was a dream. The chorus is in top form, too. Unreal cohesion, move like a unit. And whereas I thought Eva sorta faded into the background when I first saw it (was shocked she was Tony nominated, it seemed like such a small role), I thought she was the centerpiece tonight. That voice.
Finally, I don't know what the hell Reeve Carney is doing; when people complained about him back when it opened, I defended him as finding a really unique fine line between "touched" and leading man. But his portrayal seems to have gone off the rails, and when he isnt nailing those high notes, hes whisper-singing through the score. Just bizarre, though hes still giving it his all years in.
They don't do "aight" anymore without De Shields? That's odd and surprising. Was that also true when De Shields called out of the show during his run?
It's rare to see a piece of text/direction removed simply because it's associated with one actor. Usually when changes like that are made, it's to suit the skill level or particular strengths/weaknesses of the replacement, which is obviously not the case here.
hooo boy now if you share your impressions from seeing the bway show on the messages boards about the bway show, its a dumb complaint...
but ok. its his moustache. hes a good looking dude. dressed up as Hermes he looks kinda silly. shrug
also, just out of curiosity, can you identify the series of other dumb complaints in my post that is full of them? i think the only other criticism i had was reeve carney's performance. so by full of them you meant... two?
Have they added another Hades/Hermes cover? Otherwise there's only one cover for each role now.
