I do wonder if this awards season, Lin will reach the "That'll be quite enough, Anne Hathaway" level of overexposure, especially since he'll have Tick Tick Boom, In The Heights, and Encanto in awards-running. Especially with the sunny earnestness he projects.

I’ve never understood some people’s hatred/dislike for Lin Manuel Miranda. He’s always struck me as so cool and down-to-earth.
It’s like that saying: “Some people will never like you because your spirit irritates their demons”….

It's an old American story, one often repeated. A lot of people likes talent on the rise, but when the same talent's presence becomes too pervasive, some people feel the need to denigrate or take them down a notch.
Listened to the soundtrack and I loved it! "Sunday" in particular sounds incredible and "Why" is going to be quite the tear-jerker in the best way. So excited for Friday.
Watched the Netflix screening with a bonus talk with Bernadette Peters and Lin afterwards. Damn good movie and my favorite musical of the year, but what stuck with me the most was how spooky good Bradley Whitford was as St----- S-------. Inflections, physicality, appearance - for a character that only shows up in like two or three scenes, his performance was straight up immaculate.

Thanks for making me cry with a promo, Netflix!
On an unrelated note, should we tell BWW that their review is full of errors? It mixed up who plays Susan vs. Karessa, not to mention misused the word infamous... I haven't seen the film yet so there were probably other flubs that I didn't catch...

All I could think of was Chevy Chase in Three Amigos. "Wow, in-famous? IN-famous??"
Oh, this thread warmed my heart this morning--the old posts, the "will he WRITE RAPS FOR IT" snark, the folks who went to see it in a theater, I'm so grateful, all of it. This movie is FOR YOU. Okay okay I'm leaving, carry on...
I'm wondering if the bits of music not on the soundtrack will be released anywhere, like the "Superbia" songs mainly?
Also, was "Green Green Dress" filmed and cut, since the full track is available as a bonus at the end of the soundtrack?
If so, will it ever be released anywhere as a deleted scene?
Also, I hope that the full "tick...tick...BOOM!" one person video show performed by Larson that is shown during the end credits is released to the public one day, in some form. I think the only way to see it now is to go to the Larson archives in Washington, D.C. There were a few songs released on one of the Larson CDs, and now this over the end credits, but not the full video show.

Netflix doesn't release their "originals" on physical media, unless it's a very rare "Criterion Collection" release like Roma, Marriage Story, or The Irishman.

Not true. They may not be released for general sale -- but I receive dozens of Netflix "screeners" every year during awards season.
And industry screeners don’t typically have deleted scenes which was the whole point about DVD/Blue Ray. LOL, that post reminded me of someone I know who did a few national commercials as a child and has kept their SAG card ever since and loves to bring up their awards screeners and talk about voting for the SAG awards in conversation, when it clearly has nothing to do with/ or add to the conversation.
Add me to the chorus of people who love this movie. It's among the my very favorite movies of the year, and a unique and touching portrait of the experience of being an artist. A film that only someone with Lin's experience can make at this level.
The film world sometimes talks about successful people receiving a "blank check" with creative control and freedom within a certain budget, and this certainly counts as Miranda's blank check.
Unfortunately, one of my big takeaways from this film is that some of Larson's songs are just okay. There are 3 GREAT songs in it (30/90, Why, Come to Your Senses), but the others aren't quite as strong. The film itself is better than most of the written material Larson contributed to the project.

I'm on the opposite of this, my favorite songs in the movie were those that weren't in the stage show. The number from Superbia, Boho Days, Swimming. It made me want to go check out all the Larson apocrypha.
Robbie, you're right, we did choreograph and film GGD as a full number, but cut it for time and pacing. We'll see about maybe releasing it on social once everyone's had a chance to see the movie.
*Cameo spoilers below*
And thanks Alex, that day with all the composers and playwrights was our last day of principal photography, and very special indeed. Though pity Bradley Whitford, who got to play Sondheim in a room full of people like JRB who know him well. We really threw him in the deep end there. Okay, getting out of here. Enjoy enjoy enjoy.
Just finished watching it and as predicted, it was freaking fantastic! The direction, script, actors, and musical numbers were on point and well done, I'm definitely going to watch it again in a moment. This movie, In The Heights, and soon West Side Story are the right ways to do a movie musical in this day and age, and I couldn't be more happier.
This is a beautiful tribute to Jonathan, no one could've done it better . With this Linn proves he not a two hit wonder but probably one of the greats.
