I'm going to post every where I can on this topic to say that if we can cast anyone as Maria - we can start to remove the one allowed discriminatory practice in casting and remove height limits for kids for the casting of the CHILDREN.
Let's cast the best singers and actors PERIOD based on TALENT, not height and appearance. I am so sick of seeing talented kids excluded from calls becuse of their height (and sometimes weight). Beaches, looking at you.
Let's find the most talented Von Trapp kids in the world-period. That will truly be a vision I can get behind.

It's hard to know for sure (and those AI detectors for art are crap) but could be something like Adobe Fresco or Procreate, both which do not use AI.

It wouldn’t bother me at all if the Von Trapp kids were of different races. But if they ‘re all six feet tall, well, obviously, THAT would be a problem.

I am conflicted with the casting of Jasmine Amy Rogers as “Maria” in THE SOUND OF MUSIC.

I think casting a woman of color in a show set around the rise of Nazism in late 30's Austria is kind of odd.
It is a weirder contrast when you notice that the August Wilson play is being done in the basement...I really expected Seven Guitars was going to be a Broadway production based on recent commitments to restaging Wilson on Broadway by the estate

I think it's more than kind of odd to suggest that casting for a classic of American musical theater should be open only to white people forever and ever.

I hear they’re looking for a 6 foot tall 300 lb Gretl.

the beauty of the Newhouse is something can always move upstairs (or down to midtown) if it’s really good and sells well. And given RSH’s track record with Wilson I think we can all expect it will be good at minimum, hopefully great.
It’s also not like Wilson is scarce on Broadway. 3 productions in 9 years, plus three feature films.

Odd because women of color didn’t exist during late 30’s Austria during the rise of Nazism…?
I think Maria being a convent girl without any mention of determinate birth or origin gives more credence that anyone could play her (and while she is based on a real person, the musical is obviously fictionalized with many factual details changed).

And, as I said in another thread, it's key to the plot that she doesn't fit in at the convent and is disliked by the Captain's Nazi-adjacent fiancé. A Black woman in the part could add more layers to those parts of the story.
