Okay, for me, Streisand.
Eder vocally? Just as good as Streisand (despite some dynamics issues and occasional frogginess), but as an actress? Should be drug out into the street and shot.
But that's just my humble opinion. :)

Having grown up listening (and yes singing with) Barbra, then becoming a Linda fan ...
Linda
In my opinion - better range, love her interpretation the smoothness of her voice.

Far too easy.
Streisand. I'm not a fan of her, neccesarily as a person, nor do I really like her voice as of now, but she is a phenomenal performer. And Barbra in her prime, vocally, is astounding.
Eder has a great belt, but she sings songs because she can. Why the hell does she sing "Man of la Mancha" (I am I, Don Quioxte)... because she can belt, and then do a whistle tone bridge. Really, she's just absurdly extraneous to me. She never seems to have any idea what she's singing about, which I despise.
Great voice though.
But Babs all the way.

Although Linda is a great singer--there is really no question that Barbra Streisand is a phenomenon and was considered such for a long time (still is by many).
Linda does not have the wow factor, edge, or stage presence in her voice that Barbra has.
Not too many can be compared to Streisand, and Linda is not one of the few.

Posted: 6/5/06 at 3:28pmActually, many have been compared to Streisand, and Linda has been one of them; along with, Jane Oliver, Celine Dion, Julie Budd and many others. Her vocal style, while unique at the time she burst on the scene, has often been copied and duplicated. Whether or not others are as good, is a matter of opinion. Not so much a fan of that style of singing, myself, but I do appreciate Eder's abilities. Streisand, not so much.

Posted: 6/5/06 at 8:43pmStreisand, she can connect emotionally with songs - something Eder rarely does.

Posted: 6/5/06 at 9:25pmNo contest. Linda may be able to sing, but she's not an actress by any stretch of the imagination. Babs' early work shows what a phenomenal actress she was when she sang a song - she knew what every single lyric and nuance meant. She played every moment superbly and was one of the best performers of her time. She's become a bit of a characature of herself, but I'd still pick her over Linda any day of the week.

Without Barbra, there would be no Linda.
Barbra is the voice of the later part of the 20th century and she still sounds great today. She might be "important" now, but you can't touch that voice, that style, and her early stuff is just crazy awesome!

Linda Eder by far.
Does anyone know what Barbara thinks of Linda Eder?

Linda is only a singer. Babs is a singer, director, producer, activist, film star, broadway star and icon. Eder doesn't even begin to compare.

Hello, GORGEOUS!
ETA: Would someone *please* change the title of this thread?? Her name is BARBRA. No third A.
#64Apples or Oranges??
Posted: 6/6/06 at 1:12pmBarbra Streisand is an artist. I'm sure she has no idea who Linda Eder is. I envy her.

#67Apples or Oranges??
Posted: 6/26/06 at 11:14pmI can't stand when other female singers sing anything that Barbra has sung, because they all suck in comparison. I like Linda Eder, but I can't stand to listen to her singing "Don't Rain on my Parade." I guess it could be good... if you haven't heard Barbra sing it. When what's-her-name from American Idol this past season sang "The Way We Were," I wanted to shoot her. Again... sucks in comparison.

Posted: 6/26/06 at 11:23pmWell I think that's kind of a bizarre statement to make. I'm sure people said that same thing about Barbra singing songs by Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald, Fanny Brice, etc. That's just silly.

Neither.
I'll take Christine Andreas over these two any day.

Posted: 6/26/06 at 11:54pmluvliza, that's just my opinion. Personally, I prefer Barbra over Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald, Fanny Brice, etc. I think every piece of work she touches turns to gold and that once she's done it, it can never be topped.
#72Apples or Oranges??
Posted: 6/27/06 at 12:14amI think that Barbra is quite genuis myself, but I don't think everything she does is amazing. She has taken a few missteps (i.e. her album "What About Today?" and most of her rock stuff, and her film "The Main Event"...thats all I can say to that one). She would have been better at rock if she could sing on beat and brought something different to them like she did with her other more appropriate song selections. And some other people think her first album "The Barbra Streisand Album" is great expect for her kooky stuff, like "Come To The Supermarket" and "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?". That stuff I love though. Other kooky favorites are "Value", "I Hate Music", "Sweet Zoo" etc. I love that Barbra, along with the "A Sleepin' Bee" and "Lover Come Back To Me" kind of stuff.
