Liza book promotion chat — Page 10

The biggest takeaway from this thread is the overwhelming number of posters who genuinely care about Liza.

I can't say I'm the world's biggest Michael Feinstein fan. But ever since he was starting out in his 20s he has shown genuine care for the people and culture of yesteryear. Ira Gershwin, Rosemary Clooney, Jerry Herman, Marilyn Maye, Liza. It's his entire brand. Yes, some of those people helped his own career, but I think he's just a show queen at heart who would be happy knowing those people even if he wasn't also a successful performer. I don't see his actions and motives as malicious.
Minnelli is, by all accounts, a private person who has been exploited by a lot of people over the past 80 years. Telling her story to Michael Feinstein (someone she trusts and loves) is probably the only way her story gets out there in the way she wants it told. Would people be saying the same if Marc Shaiman cowrote Bette Midler's book?
In some ways the Michael-Liza relationship is not that different than the Liza-Kay Thompson relationship. Except I don't think she's actually housemates with Michael!

I’m still having a fab time in NY… saw Ragtime last night, John CameronMitchell in Oh Mary on Friday evening followed by a jazz set at the Village Vanguard, with other things planned to bring me joy and lift my spirits. It’s definitely a downer, but I know it's a first world problem!
Commiserations to my fellow disappointees.
One day it’s kicks, then it’s kicks in the shins… but the planet spins, and the world goes 'round
Glad you are having a great time in NYC even after your disappointment. Continue to enjoy!!

Oh yeah, they sure "care" alright!

I don't think that anyone who has posted on this thread is Annie Wilkes.

Yeah, Annie Wilkes thinks anyone who partied at Studio 54 is a dirty birdie.

Hopefully you reached out to them as her memoir is not listed anywhere on their website which might explain why you’ve yet to receive it.

Yes it is. It is just listed as sold out. I have not received mine either.

I purchased my copy from Premiere Collectibles on 11/30 and received it on 3/10.

Just got to the section on her stepping into Chicago. In the book, Liza says that “Nowadays” was converted into a solo for Roxie alone during her run. I thought that was the case for “I Am My Own Best Friend,” not “Nowadays.”

Still waiting for the book. Premiere Collectibles is having issues . Order was placed in December . Anywhere else I can order this with the much debated autograph? They sent me conflicting emails about warehouse issues. They did offer me a refund if I didn’t want to wait . It really sucks.

Indeed, the only duet made into a solo for Liza was “I Am My Own Best Friend”. Both Liza and Chita sang duet on “Nowadays”.

Finally finished the audiobook and while I don’t begrudge her using AI, it’s weird she not only isn’t honest about it but actively discusses recording it.
tbh it reminds me of the pattern she acknowledges in the book about creating a press story fit for public consumption.
But in all, I’m happy she did the book.

Was there any particular reason "I Am My Own Best Friend" was made into a solo?

She says in the book it was her only request (though, as noted, it mistakes it with "Nowadays")

Still nothing from premiere collectibles . So I thought I would ask again if anyone knows of anywhere I can still buy the so called autographed book? Appreciate it. Thank you.

“Signed” copies are sold out everywhere so your only luck now is to obtain one from a seller on eBay but at a premium.

I have an extra signed copy if someone is interested in buying.
I think Liza probably just misremembered the Chicago changes, but I’d love for her to be confusing it with her solo Nowadays performance on Dinah Shore (surprise Chita at the end).

I'd be interested! But this flakey, janky website has been sending errors when I try to PM you.
