Personally I see no evidence that Liza doesn’t know what’s going on. And on the contrary, she seems to be happy to be there and happy to promote the book.

So, as sad as it is to watch her in this shape, I don’t see the evidence this is all Michael’s doing.
"

Well if Michael is the “friend” he claims to be he’d NEVER allow her dignity and safety be compromised. I want Liza to be out there and feeling loved if she so chooses. However, ensure her dignity and safety.

There’s a chance that Gaga saw that awful makeshift directors chair atop a shoddy wooden plank on rollers and said, “Hell no.” That’s a caring person. That contraption looks precarious at best. A fall for Liza could end so much.

"

And yet, Liza seems offended by what Gaga did. She seems thankful for Feinstein. If not "allowing her dignity" to be compromised results in actions that leave her feeling mistreated, and doing the opposte makes her feel vital, maybe we need to re-think what care actually is.

The biggest takeaway from this thread is the overwhelming number of posters who genuinely care about Liza.

I can't say I'm the world's biggest Michael Feinstein fan. But ever since he was starting out in his 20s he has shown genuine care for the people and culture of yesteryear. Ira Gershwin, Rosemary Clooney, Jerry Herman, Marilyn Maye, Liza. It's his entire brand. Yes, some of those people helped his own career, but I think he's just a show queen at heart who would be happy knowing those people even if he wasn't also a successful performer. I don't see his actions and motives as malicious.

Minnelli is, by all accounts, a private person who has been exploited by a lot of people over the past 80 years. Telling her story to Michael Feinstein (someone she trusts and loves) is probably the only way her story gets out there in the way she wants it told. Would people be saying the same if Marc Shaiman cowrote Bette Midler's book?

In some ways the Michael-Liza relationship is not that different than the Liza-Kay Thompson relationship. Except I don't think she's actually housemates with Michael!
