Jason Robert Brown and Taylor Mac's new musical Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil will make a Broadway bow in 2025, with cast, dates, and theatre to be announced. The work, adapted from John Berendt's 1994 non-fiction book, made its world premiere at Chicago's Goodman Theatre earlier this year. Read reviews for that run here.
Given the reception, I'm very surprised it's coming in next year.
Does he enjoy it when his shows flop on Broadway? There's no other explanation
Well, at least we’ll get to see J. Harrison and Sierra back on Broadway for a brief moment.

I’ll take unexpected Broadway transfers for 400
Not unexpected at all. I could see Ghee getting a Tony for this. They carry the entire show.

I"m shocked as well this is transferring. That book needed a complete overhaul. However, I am looking forward to hearing the score again, so hopefully it runs long enough to merit a recording. ( Clap on 3 and 5 is a great number) I agree that J.Harrison Ghee could win their second tony award for this.

A lot of work needs to be done on the book in the first act, but I found the second act engaging, and the music is excellent.

It always amazes me that producers are willing to throw millions of dollars down the drain like this.
where do we see this landing..... perhaps the Booth, or is anything already earmarked there after The Roommate?

It kind of depends on what their timetable is- whether they want to be in the 24-25 season or 25-26.
They’re aiming for this spring, last I heard.
Booth is way too small. This needs a midsize theater. I actually loved the device of the cast talking to us as the reporter. And I liked the messiness of the book. I just think it was two shows in one and hopefully that gets sorted. And hopefully the cut some of the voodoo stuff as it just dragged everything down. And maybe replace the leading man with someone up to the vocals.

Casting hasn't been announced yet, but if they don't at least have Ghee committed to a Broadway run, I couldn't see the point of announcing a transfer.

Do we think this comes in with an updated book in the spring? The Palace would seem to big. Belasco? What's going into the Imperial?
“Smash” is going to the Imperial.
Thanks. That will great for the show.

Is the Broadway production still happening? Are they aiming for the fall instead, or is this dead in the water?

Still happening, in the fall.
A SEC filing is up and they’re hoping to raise 25 million dollars.
$25 million for this??? I’ll be honest, that sticker price is appalling unless they’ve decided to replicate the full southern manor onstage. I felt it worked pretty bare bones at the Goodman. What needed to be fixed was the book.
25 million seems about par for the course as far as original musicals since the pandemic.
