It's not. The live CD was recorded a few weeks after opening night in May 2014, the 25th Anniversay Gala show was in September 2014.

This show was the one broadcast on the radio on BBC. However, I suppose the 25th anniversary gala wasn't the only performance they filmed since some of the close-up shots are similar to the cinematic trailer they had before

Thanks, my bad. In my defense, this Playbill article kinda gives that impression. It also states that this upcoming broadcast was taped in September 2015 which is also inaccurate. :)
Playbill is getting almost as bad as BWW with its inaccuracies.
I would imagine that, like Billy Elliot Live, this production will be released on DVD and Blu-ray. It may be released earlier in the UK as the show has closed there...not sure that the producers would want it available here while they're trying to sell tickets to the upcoming Broadway production and eventual tour.
Thanks for this information--just booked a ticket [Brisbane/Australia] for Oct.19-it's showing over 3 daily sessions for A$16.00 inc booking/concession fee in various cinemas-just google Miss Saigon film Australia.
Can't wait as saw the original London production final dress rehearsal than an all Thai version in Bangkok a few years back.

They had 4 camera's filming the 25th anniversary show (complete show + celebrations at the end) in September 2014.
However, in the final week of performances, february 2016, they did 3 days of additional shots and close-ups. They did this during the day, without audiences. They asked Alistair Brammer and Rachelle ann Go back for these close-up shots, who had already left the show for a year. (Rachelle was already in Les Mis) The actor and actress who played Thuy and Ellen were not asked back for additional shots so all of their shots will be taken on the actual 25th gala show day.
I wonder if they can still match the shots and intensity of those 25th show footage with the shots of 1,5 year later, where everyone looks 1,5 year older, and some of them have been out of the show for so long (haircut, weight, etc).
Also, they did not use an orchestra whatsoever for those close-ups, so I assume they will use most video footage of the 25th show but ALL audio. I think they lip-synched to themselves on the additional shooting days.
In the trailer, most of it looks like the new closeup material. I hope they keep a lot of the actual performance in it too. I also hope they enhanced the audio a bit, because Eva skipped some high notes/sung wrong melody lines here and there and it would be a shame if that ends up on a document like this.

Most of the stuff in the trailer looks like the same stuff seen in the "The Heat is Back On" documentary. I figured it was all recycled B-roll footage.
I think the suff in "The heat is back on" comes from the promotional trailer from 2014:

The new cinema trailer has different shots:

The biggest difference is the fact that they did not wear mics in the 2014 promotional trailer, but they do in the new close-up shots, because obviously it has to match the 25th performance.
SO excited to catch this in Denver as a friend saw this London production and absolutely loved it. Anyone else going to be seeing it tonight??
I'm going tonight. I'm looking forward to hearing folks' reactions tomorrow.
We saw this twice in London - the first preview and then press night a few weeks later. Very much looking forward to the filmed version!
(I tried to get tix to this Gala Anniversary performance as I had a conference in London that day - but online ticketing was a mess when tix were released - and while I toyed with the idea of going to the theatre to see what I could get, I had a conference dinner that evening)
I'm looking forward to seeing this tonight. I saw the show twice when it first opened in New York - May of 1991.

Not sure why the UK has to wait until the 16th of Oct for the cinema showing but will be interesting to see what you all think of the revamp and especially the new cast - certainly more of a risk for them prior to the Broadway return if people dont like the new staging.
Enjoy the movie and lookout for the nod to book of mormon
I'm going to tonight!
I'm seeing it tonight. All the NYC screenings were showing sold out last week, but I lucked out a couple of days when the Regal Union Square released some more. I wonder if they just added a second auditorium due to demand, I know they've done that before. But I'm super excited to see it.

Seeing it tonight. I've never seen the original so this will be my first exposure to the musical outside of the cast recording, so I'm excited for it!

I will be there tonight! I saw this in London in 2014 and loved it. Also saw it back in the day with Lea Salonga!

Unless you want to see it on the big screen you may as well wait a few days and get the dvd or blu ray. They are up on amazon.co.uk for preorder. Out 24 oct
Add me to the list of those going tonight.
Saw it in London last year and really enjoyed it. Eva Noblezada is terrific, and it'll be good to see Jon Jon Briones again as The Engineer, after having just seen him play Georges in La Cage.

I'm going tonight! So excited. I saw the non-equity US tour twice (with Jon Jon Briones as the Engineer), but that's it.

Seeing the show tonight ... only 1 theatre in the whole state showing it so we had to drive 3 1/2 hrs but it's worth it ... saw it in London a year ago and it's fantastic. And in reply to the poster who wondered why we get to see it a month before those in the UK ... it's about time!!! It's usually us that has to wait a month or two after it's screened over there!! I wonder if the blu ray listed on Amazon.co.uk will be region free. If so I'll pre-order it right away as it is not currently listed on Amazon.com.
What are the odds of this hitting video before coming to Broadway? Or ever?
