It is, but I really don’t know what to make of this.

Obviously she can sing and has some acting experience, but it really seems like an odd choice of casting. I don’t think I’ve seen more of a “death rattle” level of stunt casting in quite some time. I’ll probably buy a ticket just to have it and toss it if it doesn’t pan out.

Death rattle…? She’s quite literally one of the biggest rappers in the WORLD.

The inference of Death Rattle for the show. As in, they are closing and so they’re just getting whoever they can so they can fill their coffers before it ends.

I understand, but this isn’t “whoever they can” get. This isn’tsome random TikTokker or Real Housewife. It’s Megan Thee f*cking Stallion.

The Hirschfeld is going to be a concert venue for two months. Can't even imagine the insane prices.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

…Some of y'all are truly ridiculous LOL

You’ll act like John Cameron Mitchell going into OH MARY! is the second coming of Christ (no shade to JCM), but then pretend not to know who Megan Thee Stallion is.

Believe it or not, there is a rather large world out there - outside of the theater-sphere. Might be worthwhile to take a peek at it every so often.

I'll never understand why some people are so proud to be ignorant!

PS:   A simple Google search would've told you who she is -- but I guess your preference is to show us how "above" the rap world you consider yourself to be!

It's not a dunk to just show how culturally inept you are, you know that right?

Like... Meg has had her name on damn near everything she could over the last 5 years. She's literally headlining a Dunkin Donuts campaign right now...

Dynamic pricing is already in effect on the ATG website.

Prices aren't crazy. $110 for the rear mezzanine. $350 for table seats. Premium seats are the usual prices.

Those aren't bad, much better than the 250$ I almost spent for the last row at MCR Nashville. Dynamic pricing is still of the devil and we should eat the people who invented it.

It was a joke. I know who she is and can name many of her songs. But when we have actual triple threat Broadway performers struggling to get work, yeah, I'm inclined to ask "who" when they do this ridiculous stunt casting. I'm tired. I want our industry to care more about our stage veterans and less about making the rich richer.

Broadway is trouble for the long term. We are training our audiences to expect and only  appreciate celebrity driven content. The Theater owners do not care about the shows or how good they are, (Othello),  but how much money is to be made. That's where trends are going, but it will make it very hard for new work and new stars to flourish. With bursting budgets I don't know how the model will be sustainable without celebrity. They've been woven into the making.

SO could’ve been right about Miley Cyrus going into Cabaret and people on this board still would’ve said “who?”

At least this role seems fitting for stunt casting, on paper. It’s not like she’s playing Fosca.

On the other hand, is it worth hiring one BIG name that is not a "Broadway triple threat" if it means a hundred other people get to stay employed for more time?

And here we are with those who can't read. I didn't say Broadway is dying. I said Broadway is creating an unsustainable model by centering celebrity. Celebrities make Broadway money, but a lot of original works suffer. Two things can be true and we should be able to discuss both without being shamed. Thanks.

"I want our industry to care more about our stage veterans"

Why would the industry care about stage veterans when audiences don't? Only a handful of "stage veterans" tour or play regional houses. They have no real fan base outside of NYC. Hiring a "stage veteran" for a show that's been running for a million years, aimed at tourists makes no sense.

People aren't compelled to see Danny Burstein because they don't know who he is. He hasn't been in a show outside of New York since the out of town tryouts of Moulin Rogue (2018) and Follies (2012). Will they LOVE a Danny Burstein performance when they see one? ALMOST DEFINITELY! It's not going to get them through the door, though, unless perhaps they saw him in something the last time they were in New York.

People want to see celebrities because they are known quantities. Theater veterans who do not work outside of New York are not known quantities.

Preach. I thought I was done with this show but think I need to see this icon on a Broadway stage and this show one more time. What a get, and very out-the-box choice.

while I would normally see your point, the show is closing. So this is just a last attempt to bring even more money in (dynamic pricing too) before closing after a nice run.... It just smacks of greed for me.

sorry, I guess I'm being a bit of an a$$. She is talented and a star, I just wish we could see some theatre folk who need the work tread the boards. A friend has tried for two decades tirelessly to break in, making ends meet teaching and doing some tv work. She is so talented. But at 50 and not a name, it feels like she'll never make it. I have seen the light kind of dim in her eyes lately when she talks about auditioning so this news today made me annoyed.

i shouldn't have suggested she's a nobody because my annoyance isn't with Meghan, but producers.
