I only got to meet Ms. Mazzie once when we both performed in the 54 Below Sings BIG RIVER concert. She was stunning on stage, and gracious and lovely off. I've said this over the last few years to friends, but that was one of the top three nights of my performing career. Nothing but joy, and watching Marin and Daniel Jenkins recreate magic from almost 30 years prior was an extraordinary thing. I opened my Facebook this morning and was reminded that the concert was 5 years ago tonight. So my heart is both heavy and filled with joy remembered.
In the pantheon of great leading ladies of Broadway, she surely ranks near the top. Of all the work she's done, it's the Andrew Lloyd Webber Love Trio I love the most. When she and Audra sing 'Shout Love,' it never fails to move me. Mostly cause I think if you could actually hear what love feels like, that would be the sound. Rest well, Ms. Mazzie.
Marin was extraordinary. Passion. Ragtime. Two of my favorite show performances of all time came from Marin. So young. Life is a short trip, momma. Make the most of it. I think she did.
A lover of theater for decades. Teacher by day. Family man by night. See more theater than most, oftentimes a hesitant plus one.
This is so incredibly devastating. Such stage presence, warmth, gravitas, and a voice for the ages. Most of my broadway memories of her ironically came 20 years ago with ragtime and kiss me kate when I was barely in middle school, but made such a huge impression on me. I practically grew up with the Ragtime cast recording. I only saw her in concerts after that.
This song probably has a new meaning today. Hard to listen to it.

-There's the muddle in the middle. There's the puddle where the poodle did the piddle."
It looks like they're dimming six theater marquees for Marin on Wednesday, September 19 at 6:45 p.m.: the Al Hirschfeld, Broadhurst, Gershwin, Gerald Schoenfeld, St. James, and Nederlander.
I'm sorry, but what is the logic of only dimming six marquees? Is it really that much of an effort to have all of the theaters honor the career and legacy of Ms. Mazzie?
Such sad news! Although i live on the "wrong" coast, I was fortunate to see Miss Mazzie perform live three times: Passion in NYC, but also Brigadoon with Mr. Danieley in Los Angeles, and her club act--also with her husband--here in Palm Springs. And then there were the many TV appearances and recordings!
She was incandescent on every occasion! Imagine that she had the brutality to sing Aldonza and then the delicacy to turn around within a year or two to sing Clara in Passion! Amazing!
In our millions, in our billions, we are most powerful when we stand together. TW4C unwaveringly joins the worldwide masses, for we know our liberation is inseparably bound.

People should flood Charlotte St. Martin's Inbox in protest. Go to the Broadway League site to find her e-mail address. I sent an e-mail to complain. It ended with the suggest when she dies, a toilet in each Broadway house should be flushed in her honor!
God shared you with us and now He has you in His presence. The gifts you shared with us will serve as a reminder of how truly beautiful you were when you were among us. May God keep you now in his love and grace and glory. You will not be forgotten.
Over the years many, many talented souls have passed away and the BWW community has expressed profound feelings of loss, admiration, love, sadness, grief...
But, I don’t remember BWW honoring those artists with a memorial logo.
The last time I remember it happening was when we lost a member of our own. Rachel. Known to us as iflitifloat. BWW honored her with her signature Peace Sign on their logo.
if it’s happened before, it’s never captured my attention. But tonight’s tribute to Marin did.
Rachel and Marin were two souls traveling the same path - both lost too soon to cancer. Both strong, brave and beautiful. Both are now at peace.
My condolences to Jason and all of the people who knew and loved Marin. My heart breaks.
May flights of angels sing her to her rest,"
I too remember when we lost Rachel - iflitifloat- she was a beautiful presence here and that tribute was so well deserved. I also miss Glebb...xoxo
Living in Europe I never saw her live but the recordings of Passion and Ragtime certainly set the standards very high for those who came afterwards. A true Broadway star in every sense of the word. Love and condolences to her husband and family.
This is a time when we should be thinking thoughts of love and honour for Ms Mazzie- we should not have to be complaining at the poor taste of those who are meant to represent the community.
PS I've not noticed the tribute on the BWW header before either but I think it is very fitting and I'm very glad it was done.

The way the marquee is currently set up doesn’t lend itself to any kind of dimming.
Charlotte St. Martin demonstrated during the days after Jan Maxwell’s death that she is terrible human who only cares to dim lights for major celebrities. Both Jan and Marin deserve to have every marquee dimmed in their honor. It’s incorrigible that this woman carries on like this.
