DRAG has actual dates. TEETH still has not announced dates, merely noted that it will begin sometime in October (which is odd, but shouldn't be anything to worry about since most people are not buying 3-4 months out for an esoteric Off-Broadway musical).

I don’t think so. If I remember correctly, I believe MRJ and his producing team think this would actually benefit better in an open-ended run off-Broadway where costs can be kept down and supply won’t heavily exceed demand.
This was a hot ticket at Playwrights and so, especially with the launch around Halloween and the holidays, I can see this doing quite well.

Cast recording is out and it’s GREAT! Even better than i hoped it would be.
I hope they beef up the band for NWS. Anna K Jacobs said they are going to be making changes and relooking at things for NWS recently in a podcast.

Tickets for the New World Stages production go on sale July 26 with fan presale July 24. The BWW press release says it opens on October 31, but I was unclear if that meant first performance or the press opening.
edit: Just saw on Playbill that the first performance is October 16
Does anyone else think it's a mistake that they are waiting so long to re-open this show? I think it would have been a really hot Summer show. Cast recording sounds incredible tho.

Probably would have worked as a summer show, but it's pretty clear they're aiming for a Halloween audience. We just had a thread about how rare horror is on stage, and it looks like they're trying to cash in on the niche audience.
That's a good point but considering this is being advertised as an open ended run, they will need to go the distance long after Halloween has passed. This is a perfect show for NWS and I hope it's incredibly successful.
NWS as probably already booked with Empire.
I seem to remember a Jared Loftin song in Act 1 that isn’t on this recording. I think it was him and all the girls singing about how he wasn’t gay anymore. Didn’t have a song list with my program. Am I crazy?
Edit: I missed it on the first pass, Born Again is the song.
I haven't gone back to Playwrights Horizons since The Strange Loop. And I won't until they stop choosing these awful shows. If they want to know why they are doing so badly, there are many, many people who seem to agree with me.

You consider Teeth to be one of these "awful" shows?

How would you know it's awful if you didn't see it? Also, Stereophonic premiered at Playwrights and became the most nominated play at the Tonys ever - so I don't think there are many, many people who agree with you.
I will never pay money to see another Michael Jackson show. I wouldn't go it I got a free ticket.
Sales are down and PH is in trouble. So you figure out why that has happened. I used to go all the time to PH. I am not going anymore.

All Off-Broadway theatres are struggling. Look at the Public! I also realized you are the person who complained about not wanting to see drag queens outside of clubs, so I really don't care what you think. Enjoy your awful taste!
That cast album makes the show seem like a one-joke affair. Though the actors themselves clearly commit 100%.

Never heard of it, but you're, like, totally right. A Strange Loop, Stereophonic, and Teeth were met with absolutely no buzz, awards, a Pulitzer prize, near universal acclaim, cast recordings, and sold out shows. Ever. Like, they've all been totally forgotten. Absolute failures, all of 'em.

Let’s not forget Downstate, which is maybe the single best piece of theater I’ve seen in the last 5 years or more
^ Yessssss.....loved that show so much! Bruce Norris is a genius.
Yes downstate needs to come back! I also wonder if Mr Burns will be turned into a full production

I wish they would take the melodies for this show and reuse them for something else ALW style. I love a lot of the songs but tonally this show was a disaster. Mad campy one minute, to the point of farce. and then a woman pushing 40 playing a teen singing Spring Awakening esque sad, moody, numbers about her developing body without a hint of irony? Didn't work for me at all, and I was so excited to see this movie musicalized. I still think this would make a great musical...I just wish it was written by other people lol.
Really hoping for a Sunday evening option at the end of Oct. Only slot left open for my long weekend. 🤞🦷

I really enjoyed this on stage despite how flawed it was (I saw an early preview too), but the cast album just falls kind of flat for me. I wonder if these are going to be the "frozen" editions of the songs for the NWS run or if they would still be changing things up. Maybe it's just a show that needs the performances to go along with the songs.

I've listened through "Girls Like You", and I'm really liking the album so far. Jackson & Jacobs clearly know the style they're lampooning well, and the wordplay in the lyrics is very clever. You can also feel the suspense building in the more dramatic songs like "When She Gave Birth" that still feel of a piece while not necessaeily being played for comedy.
