I’m still hoping to see the Yeston Phantom in New York someday and since it’ll never be on Broadway I feel like Encores! is the only place for it.

ASPECTS OF LOVE. Not expecting the current UK revival to transfer. For years I thought it would have made a great choice. And fits the original mission, gorgeous score with a not so great and challenging book.

Whistle Down the Wind
Hands on a Hard Body
Older: Street Scene, The Happy Time, Paint Your Wagon (apparently the book was revised about 20 years ago), Brigadoon (with John Guare's alleged new book), Ain't Supposed to Die a Natural Death.
I'd love to see them try Taboo with a revised book.

Wasn't Grand Hotel done a few years ago?"
Yes 2018 with John Dossett, it was ok but nothing special imo"
Somehow I missed that. Maybe they can do it again, but much better .
Whoever said Grey Gardens with Jennifer Simard, you get an honorary Tony just for suggesting that. Wow.

Women on the verge and Bridges definitely. I desperately need them to do the 1988 version of Carrie with the original orchestrations and the pig number. A Year with Frog and Toad would be fun.

This is somewhat unrelated to the main question, but since Encores has re-written books/scores before, I wonder if they’ll ever do a series where they remount shows that never made it B’way? And I’m not talking about Off-Broadway. I’m talking all the out-of-town tryouts that go nowhere due to lack of theater availability/funding/other reasons etc.. There’s a big graveyard of shows. Some that come to mind are Dave @ Arena, Life After @ The Goodman, Ever After @ Alliance, and literally hundreds more.
^^That would be interesting, although I suppose it would cause Encores productions to sometimes be used as another tryout for a 'new-ish' show whose creators were still holding out hope for it to become a hit. For better or worse.
How about Giant? Not sure if it fits the mission statement.
LaChiusa’s Wild Party, hands down.

Since the mission of Encores is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ these days, I propose Bat Boy: The Musical.

Very true. I just get so upset whenever I think about all of the time, hard work, and money that goes into making a musical, and then for them to disappear into nothingness like they never happened if they don’t make it to NYC is sad. Even if the show itself needs work, there could still be gorgeous songs we’ll never get to hear or hilarious jokes that are just sitting on someone’s computer somewhere. Guess that’s show biz for ya…

Other shows that I predict will be Encores shows in 20+ years are:
Steel Pier, Nice Work if You Can Get It, Memphis, Newsies, If/Then, and one of my favorite underrated gems, Tuck Everlasting

Putting it together (Sondheim)
Phantom (Yeston)
Pacific Overture (original B’way version)
A Gentleman’s Guide to love and Murder, I know it’s only too “young” for Encore..

In order of personal preference:
The way Encores seems to be now, I think we have a better shot at “Rent” next year than most anything else mentioned.

Ah, but which version of Candide?
Heck, we still don’t know who’s replacing Lear deBessonet as artistic director at this point.
Also, perfect timing for that suggestion, Jordan Catalano

They did “70 Girls 70” i. 2006, with Charlotte Rae. That was a fun night, I remember.
