I've listened a few times too! I'm loving Patti's songs and "Model Behavior" is as brilliant as everyone has said.

'On The Verge' is one of the most infectious melodies I've ever heard.
The staging was just as good! Unfortunately they cut Patti's hilarious intro to the song for the album.
What was the staging like for On the Verge? I know Candela jumped, but then what happens? Sonething with harnesses and aerial effects?
I've "heard" the full stage version of 'On the Verge' and Patti's "...suddenly find yourself on the vergeeeeeee" section is hysterical, and she sounded damn good singing it.
The raisin section of 'Model Behavior' is comedic brilliance.
Yup, the four ladies hung from the proscenium on ropes at the end of the number. It was so much fun.

That is probably the most clever and ingenious effect I have ever heard of. I can totally see that staging just making the song even more intense and awesome.

Got my CD yesterday and it is fantastic (minus "The Microphone"). Although I was not a fan of this show, I'm grateful that we have the score preserved on disc. Patti's "Invisible" sounds so much better without all that awful dialogue. Love "On the Verge," "Tangled," and of course Laura Benanti's brilliant number.
What are the chances of this getting a Best Score nomination?
If they want to snub Catch Me's score, I think it has a slight chance. Don't get your hopes up though! The orchestrations might not even be nominated, and they really deserve it.
Hopefully the cast album (or a sampler) was sent to the nominators!!

what shows have scores eligible this season?
Edit, just found them in the other thread:
BEST ORIGINAL SCORE
Music & Lyrics: Michael Friedman, BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON
Music & Lyrics: John Kander, Fred Ebb, THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS
Music: Alan Menken, Lyrics: Glenn Slater, SISTER ACT
Music: Marc Shaiman, Lyrics: Scott Wittman, Marc Shaiman, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN
Music: Matthew Sklar, Lyrics: Chad Beguelin, ELF
Music & Lyrics: Robert Lopez, Matt Stone, Trey Parker, THE BOOK OF MORMON
Music: Mike Stoller, Artie Butler, Lyrics: Iris Rainer Dart, THE PEOPLE IN THE PICTURE
Music: Frank Wildhorn, Lyrics: Jack Murphy, WONDERLAND
Music & Lyrics: David Yazbek, WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN
I think the nominees will be Scottsboro, Sister Act, Catch Me, and Mormon, which sadly leaves Verge out of the running. But as we've seen in the past, anything can happen.

The more I listen to this, the more I fall in love with it. Frank Rich's comments in the booklet are so true, I believe this piece will have a strong future.
I really hope they pushes CATCH ME or SISTER ACT out of the Best Score category (as I personally think MORMON and SCOTTSBORO are locks there).
I hope this wins for best score. Still get tingles listening to "Invisible." Like the pieces so much more without the surrounding show...

I don't quite get "Invisible". It has funny lyrics, but it's not delivered like it's funny, and it just sort of peters out, I guess.
Too many of the numbers in this score could be taken out and plonked into anything. Lovesick and Island are great songs - but they mean almost nothing and completely fail to illuminate Pepa in any way. The best numbers are the ones like Tangled, or Model Behaviour, or On The Verge, which are completely rooted in the show itself.
Great to have it recorded, but it's an odd score and I think anyone would have had difficulty in staging it, not just Bartlett Sher.
If anyone knows how to make karaoke tracks, I would love one for "Model Behavior."
It would be stupid to pick apart every song on the CD when I can easily say I LOVE THE WHOLE FREAKIN' THING!
^ I second that quizking! I absolutely love the My Crazy Heart Opening. I wonder why they removed it and replaced it with Madrid is My Mama

Now that I've listened to the score in its entirety in crystal-clear recording quality, I have come to a few realizations:
First, this is a score that definitely works better on disc, because the (often brilliant) lyrics are much easier to understand.
Second, this seems to be a score that exists in a better form separate from the show it's in. What I mean by that is I think that the reason people are really warming up to the score now that they're hearing it in a different context is that, as many posters have said, it doesn't really seem to fit the show. But, on its own, it really is gorgeous. To agree with Michael Bennett, this just really isn't the score for a screwball comedy.
Third, Laura Benanti deserves to win the Tony this year. Not just be nominated. Win. Tell me who this year in that category has a better song than Model Behavior. Really.
I really like Laura Benanti, and I thought she was absolutely hysterical as Candela, but I think that LuPone had more to do (and did more) with Lucia.
The only thing that upset me was that they cut out Patti's opening to "On the Verge," which I really liked.
I just listened to the track and I was stunned they omitted Patti's fabulous opening. It's odd to hear the song start so abruptly.

It really worked on stage. The number was not meant to be "funny". It was incredibly poignant. The way Patti's character was set up is what turned it into a softer song of a woman living in pain and confusion than a comedic number. Unfortunately, I currently have a very personal connection to her character.
I absolutely love the My Crazy Heart Opening. I wonder why they removed it and replaced it with Madrid is My Mama
"Madrid is My Mama" originally opened Act 2. If you read all the posts regarding the musical during previews, many found "My Crazy Heart" was an odd (and somber) number to open this type of musical. "Madrid is My Mama" definitely set the tone for the show instantly when it was switched as the opening number to the musical.
Funny, I didn't "get" the score (or the show for that matter) when I saw it, and found it clumsy, confusing and sometimes downright absurd, but the more I listen to this album, the more I like it. I always did think LuPone's "Invisible" was a good song though.
Whew! I finally got my CD.
I really love "Invisible." In fact, I like all the songs more than when I saw the show itself.
I'm glad this show was recorded....and they did a great job with the CD insert as well. This was not cheaply done.

Model Behavior is verging on ten plays, but sometimes I just wish she'd belt a little more on the last note.
"Mothers Day" is still my favorite song in the score. I think it's just so incredibly beautiful.
