Where's the Shelley Winters song? After all, Shelley claims she was the one that taught Marilyn how to smile that open mouth smile.
I taught her everything How to laugh and how to sing I taught her everything she knows.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
It annoys ME because it makes me think of Parade every time :) I actually think it is very clever. I was trying to see if anyone else had picked up on it.
I finally saw the new episode and I rather liked it. I'm starting to feel for Ivy again. She just wants to do well and she made the mistake of sleeping with Derek. I hope she doesn't come back to him. She just needs to focus on taking care of herself.
Oh and I loved the History number. I really want this show's soundtrack when it comes out!
Julia needs to stop herself and now. She's gotten in way too deep and I don't see anything but peril coming for her life. She just needs to fess up to her husband and try to move on. And she's right it was a mistake hiring him.
Oh and Ellis...ugh...that is all.
I'm looking forward to the rest of this season. The songs are the true highlight.
Surprised that there were no new posts for this week's episode. Bernadette had a lot more screen time than I thought; I was thinking maybe five minutes in total but she was on for a good portion of the show. I really loved this episode, but in fairness, that may have been partly because Bernadette was on. I need to take care of some things but can't wait to come back and read and respond to everyone's comments.

still not sure how I felt about tonight's episode. I didn't love it or hate it. I just hope that's the last we see of the Messing/Chase sex scenes. The last three minutes were painful to watch. I'd like to know how Emory Cohen got cast in this and what other actors were worse than him during auditions.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
LOVED tonight's episode!! I really enjoyed the workshop and how they incorporated scenes from previously performed numbers throughout the season into the mix. I also loved the song Will Chase sang.
Once again, Messing's son on the show cannot act and that last scene with him was just unbearable to watch due to his acting. I am also getting REALLY annoyed with Ellis the assistant. Telling Aileen about Julie's affair with Michael? Really?
Also I feel like they ran out of time in tonight's episode or something because the storyline with Karen and her recording gig never completed. We never found out what happened since she skipped meeting the famous producer for the workshop instead.
Besides those few things however, I liked tonight's episode.
BTW, does anybody know when Uma Thurman joins the cast?
Well yes I thought that that storyline was just an episodic one in the series. But I just watched the preview for next week's episode and it looks like Karen will be recording more music.
Also, why hasn't NBC put up any of tonight's music on iTunes for download yet? I really liked McPhee's cover of that Colbie Caillat song.
I'll take Messing's son any day over that heinous kid who plays Ellis. I know it's the stock "bitchy conniving assistant" character but, with a decent actor, they could actually find the kitsch/camp in it and exploit it. But, this kid comes off as a giant queen in his scenes yet we're supposed to believe he's straight?!
Also, thank the Lord they're firing Will Chase's character. What casting director thought he had sex appeal? The intimate scene between him and Messing in the rehearsal space at night was carried by her. Actually she carries every scene the two of them are in. Even though he's fired, I'm certain it's not the last we'll see of him, unfortunately.
And, does it annoy anyone else that Christian Borle's character keeps being a giant tool to this gorgeous guy who couldn't be more into him? I know it's going to sound shallow, but Borle is a 5 on a good day (both him and his character) and the actor playing his love interest is a solid 9.
Wow, after three complaints you'd think I didn't like the show but, despite all my gripes, it's become a solid guilty pleasure.
Yes, it's a soap opera, more or less. But, who doesn't have their guilty pleasure?
"I love talking about nothing. It is the only thing I know anything about." - Oscar Wilde
"And, does it annoy anyone else that Christian Borle's character keeps being a giant tool to this gorgeous guy who couldn't be more into him?"
It doesn't annoy me. I think it's kind of an accurate depiction of relationships where one guy is WAY more into the other. But, I thought when the lawyer worked so fast to spring Cousin Debbie's special needs child from marijuana jail, Christian suddenly had "mah man's so big and strong and SMART too!" stars in his eyes. Maybe I imagined that.
Are you people STILL complaining about the Nathan Lane reference????? Why do I picture you sitting down in front of your TV set, rubbing your hands together, sweating in anticipation on how deliciously bad "Smash" will be, whether it is or not. Just so you can come on here and post negative. Its like "Glee" all over again. Yes, "Smash" has loads of problems, mostly writing-wise. But you people just delight in tearing it down week after week after week. Something as obsequious as the Nathan Lane mention? Why was that so offensive it had to be brought up again and again and again.
"Ooooo, I know something about the industry, so I'll give my two cents on how they're playing to the lowest common denominator by referencing a common theatre name like Nathan Lane. I am so inside I would have recognized Barry Weissler so they should have used Barry Weissler."
"Ooooo look at me, I'm calling Debra Messing Cousin Debbie like my idol in "Smash" bitchery Rachel Skukert. I am sooo smart and bitchy. Just like Rachel Skukert." *
"Ooooo I love using the words "bad" and "Smash" in the same sentence. It makes my postings sound so intelligent....cause "Smash" is bad...and I'm so intelligent...."
"No one cares or notices me if I say "Glee" is bad anymore, what am I to do...oooo, what's this...? Some new musical theatrey TV show...ooooooooo..."
*This gripe is probably more directed at the bullying snarkism that IS the NY Magazine dot com Vulture Pages recaps than a dig towards you. Nah, its probably about you too....get your own cutsie nicknames. Updated On: 3/20/12 at 02:39 AM
Owen -- so you are complaining about the complainers? Why can't they be critical? And if you read THIS week's comments, there was only little things mentioned.
That being said: many fewer comments, looks like lots of folks have given up.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Why do I picture you sitting down in front of your TV set, rubbing your hands together, sweating in anticipation on how deliciously bad "Smash" will be, whether it is or not.
...Um, 'cause you have nothing better to do?
It's NOT THAT SERIOUS dude, It's a friggin' television show.
I feel that this was the best episode in long while.
"TO LOVE ANOTHER PERSON IS TO SEE THE FACE OF GOD"- LES MISERABLES---
"THERE'S A SPECIAL KIND OF PEOPLE KNOWN AS SHOW PEOPLE... WE'RE BORN EVERY NIGHT AT HALF HOUR CALL!"--- CURTAINS
I had never seen Will Chase before this show and I'm wondering why in heck he's on here? No sex appeal, no resemblance to De Maggio and what in the world are those strange bucky beaver faces he makes while singing? ew.
Interesting how in Karen's reverie about being the star, she's dancing with Curtis Holbook et. al. Yet the ensemble performing at the workshop is totally different. Was everyone supposed to have been fired? For all its silliness, I still like the show--and Bernadette was a big plus last night.
Some plot things from week to week just don't seem to relate -- as if they used different writers for the new week's episode, or forgot little details they had given which no longer make sense. But within this week's episode, can anyone explain why when Ellis started telling about the affair, he got the steam knocked out of him and Angelica walked away -- yet almost immediately after, they had gone to a bar together and were good drinking buddies. HUH???
