"Shame, I actually really enjoyed the show and I doubt we will ever get another Broadway set show again."
Certainly on AMerican network TV, we won't. But I think Smash's trials have been so much about trying to please what networks now think is needed in an audience, and in its weird way shows that the future of TV shows will be more niche programming--off networks, which I have little doubt within five years couldmean another theatre based program.
I think NBC should be held more responsible for SMASH's sufferings than anyone. Their whole plan with airing it this is season is utter stupidity. First off, it is in the time slot of death. 10pm on Tuesday? Probably the absolute worst day of the week to expect success from a show airing at 10pm. Monday was great - it made me feel more excited about Mondays and I wasn't already too engrossed in my week and felt okay with making time for it. Also, not having THE VOICE as a lead in has hurt it big time. Of course SMASH's rating will be lower without the lead in it had all last season, especially when its current lead ins are shows with already LOW RATINGS and not much buzz. Third, they KILLED the momentum of the premiere with that week long hiatus. They should have just waited until after the State of the Union Address then premiered. Seriously, who at NBC didn't see this coming?
I don't think you can really fault the Tuesday at 10 timeslot--lots of shows have done fine there, although there's nothing that adult about Smash and I would probably ideally have it on at 9. Parenthood, which had less advertising than Smash, did better in the same time slot.
No matter how bad it gets I always will sit through Smash. Now starting tonight CBS has put Golden Boy in the 10pm time slot, I realize that the target demographics for Boy are different but I think it puts yet one more nail in Smash's coffin. I could go on ad nauseum of how NBC royally screwed up this show. With NBC at the bottom of the barrel, i suppose this shouldn't surprise any of us.
Finally confirmation that Ellis is gay. That was straight catering to the fans. Loved it. EDIT: pun was not intended. Just caught it, lol... Updated On: 3/12/13 at 10:18 PM
So let me get this straight-- Karen, you have NEVER gotten work as an actress EVER! You magically LUCK into the role of Marilyn Monroe in a Broadway bound show because the director wants to f**k you. But now, you're risking that to put all your eggs into a show that's not even finished?!?
Other than Katherine McPhee and her bad acting......I'm really enjoying last and this episode. It's becoming a real show instead of a parody of itself.

Don't forget, she's also a 'pro.' I just about spit out my drink at that line.
