Wow. I was really excited to hear they were doing a show tunes night.....
There's an hour of my life I'll never see again.
And Nadia, we heard you not quite make it to the end of the song.

r u guys kidding? Nadia was one of the pitchiest of the evening. Okay, time to switch over to the Starlet finale. FAR more entertaining...and at least I can live in a campy wonderland with Faye Dunaway!

OSG, these are classic songs, everyone, regardless of age should know some of them. "Climb Every Mountain"? Come on, every young person in America has seen The Sound of Music. Besides, just because the "young people" haven't heard of the song doesn't mean that they can't sing it well.
While Nadia was the best I've heard tonight, I'm used to that song being belted out. The beginning just sounded weak.
Like a firework unexploded
Wanting life but never

I am so glad that they didn't do RENT...if they had butchered it I would have cried...this was a HORRIBLE idea
"All the while making faces like a baby platypus who forget to take some Beano before eating a chimichanga." FindingNamo in reference to Jessica Simpson's singing.
Thank god house is on now. I can watch something that wont make me cry. I hated simon until tonight. No more showtunes, I cant take it. No one can! Nadia was good till her last few notes. I think if tonight was the final night Vonzel would win.

That was awful. With the exception of Vonzell, and the half-exception of Nadia, every single person on that show should be strapped into a theater and taught how to sing.

I just realized, your last name is Butz! Both "Norbert" AND "Butz" are in your name! You must have gotten picked on a lot as a child!
I think this was a tricky evening overall. The theme was classic broadway, but then Simon criticized Carrie for being old fashioned, which of course classic broadway sounds are a little older. Anyway, of course those of us who listen to this music frequently are going to be very critical, comparing them to how we think they should sound. I think, Vonzelle, Carrie, Bo, and God help me for saying this...Constantine were the best vocals, but Constantine ruins it with his 'sexing' the camera look, not to mention the comment on the 'Sexy' song. What the crap!? She's singing about the love she longs for, even thought he is not like others...a little quirky. Sweet, caring, tender, loving...even comic, but I wouldn't stretch the song to sexy. I believe they were all in a catch 22. If they had done a song that was overly done, popular, well known or sung by someone famous...they risked criticism, and if they did something "too broadway" the fans wouldn't know it. On to a bigger question, and I'll post a new thread for this. If you were on American Idol...not auditioning for a show...which classic broadway song would you choose?
-Scott singing about his prospects of winning AI - The contemporary hallelujah arrangement of Climb E'vry Mountain - "If I had to do it all over again.....I would do it all over again". - "It's hard because it's not really country, or rock..." ~Carrie on musicals - Scott/Bill Sikes- Nadia singing As Long As He Needs Me. oh the irony
But really, do you think this show did anything but make more people think all musicals are icky?

I. WANT. CONSTANTINE. For some reason, that man is really growing on me. I couldn't stand him at first, now I'm in love.
Scott - Buh bye! Anthony - Buh Bye! Anwar - Yawn. Bo - You're really slipping. Nikko - No more Usher impersonations, please. Constantine - Nice peformance. Carrie - This girl could win this thing singing practically anything. Nadia - Yeah, I too heard you wimp out on that last note. Getting better though. Vonzell - That "E Flat," as Paula put it, did not belong in that song. I also think your pitch was all over the place.
All in all: Carrie's still got this competition in the bag.
Did anyone else find it interesting that Constantine has conveniently "forgotten" to mention that he was ever a part of the RENT tour or of Musical Theatre in general (the judges have mentioned it but not him himself) up to this point, but now that the topic is MT he throws it at the camera whenever he can?

jacobtsf your WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! The only bad parts were Scott and Anthony everyone else sounded okay. Those two are definitely making the the bottom two. I think All 3 girls are probably staying as well Constantine and Bo. The last slot is a toss up between Nikko and Anwar.
Jacobtsf, I see what you mean. I think that is pretty low that he acts like he's such a buff when it comes to musicals. Could he have been anymore cocky when they showed the thing from last week. He tried to act all big and bad that he knew what the theme was....I mean yeah he throws that in that he was on tour with RENT, but from what i've heard on here and other boards about his performance, i dont think it was anything to bragg about.....hmmmmm, maybe he should check out what people are saying about him, before he goes promoting himself as the next Brian Stokes Mitchell

AMERICAN IDOL 4, TOP FIVE: Carrie Underwood, Vonzell Solomon, Nadia Turner, Anwar Robinson, Constantine Maroulis.
Carrie or Vonzell should win...Constantine is talented but doesn't need the "AMERICAN IDOL" contract..as long as he gets the attention, he'll be fine on his own.
oh my...that was painful. i say either scott or anthony gets voted out. ahh i need to go listen to the obcs to get the audios of tonight out of my head!
I would assume Constantine hasn't mentioned his theatre experience due to the producers/contracts. His "character" on AI is a rocker... they wouldn't want to diminish that to the public by saying he does musicals.
My question - what the hell was Paula watching that I wasn't? She was quite..opinionated.
My picks for the final two are still Carrie and Constantine.
