can i say this episode was traumatizing? my poor ears couldn't take anymore so i switched to Gilmore Girls. the only performances i liked were Carrie and Constantine.
I have just spent 3 hours listening to various showtunes to cleans me of that show....and yet I still here Anthony killing Climb Every Mountain
AI TOP 5:
CARRIE (who I think its the most plastic and pathetic emotionless performer of them all and dont understand all the LOVE for her, has a pretty good voice)
VONZEL
NADIA
BO
CONSTINTINE
GOING HOME THIS WEEK: Well, since he should have gone home last week, SCOTT needs to get the hell off of this show now - HES AWFUL! I'd follow that up with Anwar, then Nico, then Anthony! Leaving the Top 5!
LaCage, I'd get rid of Bo before any of the other of your Top 5 (he's horrid! every week!) but otherwise I agree.
I enjoy watching American Idol, but seriously, these performances this evening, would just heighten the image that all Broadway is made of is old-sounding music (i.e. the Roger's and Hammertstein classics). When you have a show like American Idol made up of a bunch of wannabe pop singers, why would any of them decide to choose and screw wonderful Broadway classics. Honestly, someone needs to help them with the song selection. With the styles that the performers claim to envelope, why not choose more modern pieces? Oh well, it's over now!
WHEW!

Tonight was absymal...I was about ready to throw something at the TV screen. Anthony showed so much potential at the beginning but is now just a walking Muzack van with a flat tire. He should have dressed as a nun. The others....well, I thought Bo did well, Nadia did okay...but overall, it sucked.

I have resisted the urge to read this thread since I had to videotape and just now got to watch...
My verdict is: no wonder there's a massive public who doesn't like musicals -- this was all old stuff sung in painful ways. ugh. Almost made *me* not love musicals. (too late to really turn that tide...)
Pippin is one of my all time favourites, so I'm usually pretty defensive about various interpretations of it. Given that fact, I am somewhat surprised that I liked Bo's different twist on "Corner of the Sky". I quite enjoyed it. Refreshingly different. (with a few lyrics that were different?!)
I note Nadia and Vonzell did better than the others, but I was bored by pretty much everyone else. (How can I be bored with musicals!?) Can we vote 2 people off this week? I choose Scott (*yikes*) and Anthony (poor song choice weirdly executed)
this is the first season I've ever watched the show, and I was somewhat excited about this until scotts first note. I think he NEEDS to go, quickly, but think of this....if he gets voted off tomorrow, he has to sing that song ALL OVER AGAIN as his goodbye. I think people are going to vote for him just so they wont have to hear it again.
PS Vonzell and Nadia are the only reason to watch that eppisode. What was with "do do do do do's" in the background of "corner"
Great article about tonight's show in USA Today already online:
Then Anthony Federov tried to Climb Every Mountain and fell off the cliff...
Scott has to go.

I know I shouldn't rise to the bait but I must:
1) These songs are part of Music History. To think that anyone who is hoping to have a career as a professional musician DOESN'T know "Climb Every Mountain" or "Hello Young Lovers" is appalling to say the least. I guess the dire predictions of art education in our schools are absolutely correct.
2) These judges are idiots. Yes, Simon, a song from the 1950's is "Old Fashioned." However, YOUR production company told her to sing a song from a "Classic Musical." Putting a wildy inappropriate backing arrangement just makes it worse.
3) Vocalists should be able to sing in a variety of styles. Excusing an abymsmal performance because "It's a Show Tune" is embarrassing.
4) During the course of the evening, these milestones of the American Theatre were dismissed as bad, boring, pathetic, awful...might I say that the LEAST Successful of these songs is still much more popular than "A Moment Like This" which is the most successful AI song, all but forgotten 4 years after it's release.
And Paula Abdul needs some sort of medication.
I'm sick and tired of Anwar and his runs. He is highly overrated.

I think that last season would of been a better group to do showtunes with. I personally loved Fantasia's "Summertime." Jennifer Hudson had a very Broadway style voice, and I remember Latoya doing really well when she sang "Somewhere" from WSS for the movie night last year.
IDOL was awful! Those pop-friendly versions of musical theatre gems did a disservice to the theatre community as well as a disservice to the show!
Then again, they have a minute and a half to sing a song. just terrible all around.

While I don't agree with what the author of the USA Today article seemed to be saying about musicals in general, that article was absolutely hilarious in its recaps of the performance and commentaries about Paula Abdul (who's wigs are becoming a bit too obvious)
The only time I watch American Idol is when they have a show tunes or a big band night. I think that the problem is that these people really don't think about what they are singing about. I only made it through half the show because it was so terrible.

In case anyone still cares.....
Bottom 3 were:
Vonzell (?!)-- She sang People -- 3rd fewest votes
Scott -- Impossible Dream
Nikko -- One Hand, One heart -- voted off
Vonzell was one of the better 3. Anthony wasn't voted off and Scott wasn't voted off. There is no justice.
Ok....I dont not know what happened with the voting....Anthony so should have been in the bottom three and Scott should have been booted...

I'm really upset that scott wasn't voted off. Nico had one off night, scott hasn't had any GOOD nights!
Seacrest should be booted off just for the way he pronounced "La Mancha."
Wow, I was really sad I had missed the episode, but after reading what y'all had to say --> I'm really glad I drank wine, watched "Lost," and cleaned my apartment instead.
Magic,
You had a much more productive evening than the rest of us, although the show DID make some of us wish we were drinking...
This just goes to prove my point - When forved to choose between "Lost" and any other show, choose "Lost." And wine, always choose wine. If forced to watch Idol, drink wine. Lots of it.
I was so excited for this episode, and then it just kicked me in the groin, over and over and over. I blogged about it already, so I won't repeat myself, but this was an absolute disgrace.
