The mothers of those teenage Glee fangirls are going to be VERY surprised.
Oh...not excited about this nor can I see it doing well. Should have ended the run with Lena and JCM.
It will do well. All those Gleeks will line up to see him, I think we will see the best sales since NPH.

Their faults for not doing their research then. The logo/picture of JCM in his Hedwig getup should give them a hint of the show's nature

He plays an openly gay character on a long-running TV show.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was referring to the quality of the show, not the sales.
"He plays an openly gay character on a long-running TV show."
And?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Myrtle was saying that because DC has played a gay character, nothing in Hedwig will shock his fans.
Which is an interesting theory.
I think this is an interesting choice, since he seems so young and poppy, but I have hope! I'm interested to see if Lena Hall stays on, too. Whoever suggested Rebecca Naomi Jones is a fantastic choice, and I feel like they won't need to worry about getting some star Yitzhak if they have a well-known Hedwig.
Are there even Glee fangirls anymore? Last I checked basically no one was watching it.
Yeah there are no Gleeks anymore. Just Ryan.
Don't like this casting at all !! Think they needed a bigger name , or a former Hedwig--- wanted to see Cahoon again so badly !! ( or Ceveris).
That being said---- regarding his age---'think JCM was only 31 in 1994 at the Jane
^ It opened at the Jane in '98. He was around 35-ish
JCM was younger then but so was Hedwig. Time has marched on and the historical markers in the show are now 25 years in the past instead of 7 or 8. Hedwig still met Luther when she was 26 before the wall came down in 1989.

But the show does take place in a time warp in which John Mayer is a thing.
I had planned on seeing all the Hedwigs because i have been given the opportunity by friends but I don't think even a free ticket will get me to see him, but maybe…
The Entitlement is extra-strength in this one.
My bad--- First performed Hedwig in 1994 ( I believe) when he was 31
All of this depends on whether Hedwig is telling the truth, and is even a real character in the world of the show, as the notorious Gainax ending throws into question anyway.
whether you think Criss will be good or not doesn't really matter. He'll sell tickets. I do hate that they've gone back to the old schedule once Criss starts: Tue-Sat @ 8pm plus Sat @ 2pm & Sun @ 3pm.

Does Darren have a big fan base outside of Glee? For the record, I'm still watching (mainly because I have a problem quitting shows) but the ratings just keep dropping. I'm not speaking out of a great attachment to the show but yes, this does seem like an odd casting choice unless they think he's got a guaranteed audience. How to Succeed seemed like a much better fit.
For what it's worth, I've seen a number of FB friends post the news of his casting, and these are people who likely had never heard of this show before. So I think his casting will certainly help sell a fair amount of tickets.
Whether "Gleeks" still exist or not, this will sell well. He will perform well. Hell, I'm not even a fan of his and I'll admit that. This will broaden the awareness of Hedwig through appealing to an entirely new type and demographic of audience.
That's the whole point, isn't it? Putting judgement aside and letting that character reign despite infamy or non-popularity. Sharing HEDWIG's story is what it's all about. And if the producers believe Criss will be able to keep sharing this story, so do I.
I cannot even begin to imagine what he'll be like in this part, which to me is exciting. Sure, he may end up delivering the performance a lot of the posters here are expecting from him, but this is really unlike anything he's ever done. I'm hoping he'll show a new side of his talents and surprise us. I'll admit I do have some concerns about his vocals, though.

I'm with you Cupid Boy on his vocals, but then again I don't know if JCM would cast him if he couldn't deliver. I really do wish Michael Cerveris would do it again though!
^ That would probably never happen, but yes, he sure was strong in his vocals. I once mentioned already that JCM asked him to step into the role because Michael could sing it better than he could!
