Unfortunately they are going back to the more traditional schedule with one evening performance on Fridays and Saturdays, and matinees on Saturdays and Sundays when Criss takes over at the end of April. I loved JCM's schedule with 8 and 10 pm weekend shows.
It is possible that this will affect The Visit. Many out of town patrons, including me, double booked weekend nights with Disgraced at the Lyceum followed by the 10 pm Hedwig show. I am doing that with the Visit and Hedwig in March as well. It will be interesting to see if the schedule change affects The Visit.
Coming from out of town, and wanting to squeeze in as much theatre as possible during a trip to New York, I know that I would see Criss at 10 pm after some other show at 8 pm. But I would not fill up my tight schedule to see Criss for a regular matinee or 8 pm show.
I seriously, seriously doubt that the change to Hedwig's schedule will affect The Visit in any way, shape, or form.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
I don't get this casting. 2011 he was popular as his character and "Glee" became popular. 4 years later, not so much. Also, he wasn't good in How to Succeed... The only thing worse was the audience. The screaming teenage girls just shouting randomly during the show. Maybe he'll be good in more of a rock setting, but maybe he wowed the producers during an audition. I don't see it happening though as of now.
Good on Darren for wanting to challenge himself and moving on in a post-Glee world. Clearly, the creative team are on a roll casting-wise, so clearly they see something they can work with.
"Hey little girls, look at all the men in shiny shirts and no wives!" - Jackie Hoffman, Xanadu, 19 Feb 2008
I definitely think he's too young for the role, and I actually like Darren, but I saw the news and just went WHAT!? It doesn't feel right, it doesn't seem like a good fit. I think he'll be good in certain aspects of the role, but no way an overall good choice.
Also. His fans. When he was in How to Succeed, they were overrun by his fans who did not have an ounce of etiquette. They treated the show like a concert, and did a lot of inappropriate things. Like if I recall correctly, there was someone who actually yelled out "I LOVE YOU" DURING the show, and every night there were groups of people getting up in the middle of the curtain call to be the first to the stage door and things of that nature. I seem to remember a video with interviews with the other stars in the show and they were asked about his fan base, and it was CLEAR they were struggling with nice ways to talk about them, and positive spins to put on it. His fan base is even less mature enough for this show than he is. Updated On: 2/17/15 at 03:06 PM
Despite not being a middle-aged man, I'm curious about his vocal peformance. He didn't quite fit the brassy legit broadway style of H2S, but Hedwig is much closer to his own indie rock style as a solo musician. He's not right for the role yet in general but I'm curious how he will sound nonetheless.
I don't even know who he is! I never watched Glee, but I don't recognize him from commercials or anything. Maybe I'm too old.
In the 90s, I pretty much stopped seeing Hedwig after JCM left. I'll see the show as much as I can with JCM and then I'm done. I don't think there's any actor who could replace JCM that I'd want to see anyway. No one inhabits the character like he does. I guess it's time to move on.
I got/am really excited for this casting announcement. It's funny how when I'm on facebook (where I saw the posts) on broadwayworld, broadwaycom, hedwig official page, and playbillvault that all the comments where all positive and happy but then I get on here and it's the total opposite. Do some of you have your own opinions or bandwagon with everyone else?
This will all feel the tiniest bit less terrible if the Yitzhak casting is well done. Would love for the Rebecca Naomi Jones rumors to be true. When is the show she is in at Signature finish up?
He's more of a indie pop artist in his solo gigs, not a rocker. Hedwig will be a vocal challenge. He doesn't have a strong voice, and I wonder how he'll handle 12 weeks. How To Succeed was only 3 weeks if I'm correct.
So if EVERYBODY on the other sites you mention are positive, did you ask them the same question? And seeing how not everyone HERE was negative, I'm sure not everyone else there is positive.y
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

According to the Broadway.com article, Lena will indeed be staying on.
ETA: I think he is more than talented enough for it and would love to see him, but in a season where I want to get to Fun Home, Finding Neverland (again), The King and I, and Hedwig with JCM, I probably won't be able to see Criss. My only concern, like others, is his age, plot wise. "One day in the mid to late 80s, I was in my mid to late 20s..." Honey, you *are* in your late 20s. Other than that, I think he will be great.
