That concert actually made me resent the show. Absolutely dreadful. I hope I am cleansed of the memory soon!"
Yeah, thank God I already loved that show because that debacle was enough to make someone never want to listen to it again."
Yes!Someone please give those of us who saw the most recent Carnegie Hall productiona corrective Anyone Can Whistle experience. Vanessa Williams as Cora was one of the worst performances I have ever seen. Lifeless. Even Santino Fontana & Elizabeth Stanley's excellent work couldn't save it. The Mastervoices Frogs was a huge improvement.

I’m very fond of Vanessa, but I have to agree with all of you who still feel anxiety just recalling her performance. Absolutely dreadful. It wasn’t the fun night it should’ve been, and it should have been an easy chance for her to camp it up and have fun.
It seemed for all the world like she had never heard of the show until that morning.

that's a great way to get my money for multiple visits!
Sweaty Oracle is saying Anyone Can Whistle is about to be announced with Rachel Bay Jones, Nathan Lane, and Phillipa Soo. John Weidman doing book revisions. Jonathan Tunick Orchestrating. And apparently it’s going to broadway?

Sometimes.
I've never wanted him to be right more than I do at this very moment.

It would be great to see a celebration ala Sondheim 80. My guess is we won’t until 2030 and there would be a celebratory Sondheim100 splash.

So many possibilities for a Sondheim100 Celebration, but I'd love to see something that has multiple venues (of all shapes and sizes) doing multiple events and productions around his life and of his works: lectures, concerts, shows, academic symposia, orchestral concerts of shows, gallery exhibits of art inspired by his shows, and more.

So weird. Why would anyone use this guy to leak info? And if it is true, who would want it leaked like this?

Lane seems an odd choice... For the male love interest opposite Soo? Or can someone remind me, is the narrator role Angela played in the concert in the show, too?

My initial assumption is that Lane would be Comptroller Schub.
The full production (the non-concert version available to license) has a very brief narration at the top of the show, but otherwise there is no narration or narrator.
Yeah, Schub is realistically the only role in Whistle for Lane- he’s not right for Hapgood and all the other male roles are very small, but it’s an odd choice for him. It’s a featured role with very little singing and not a lot of showcase potential. Feels like something he could do in his sleep, really.
Whistle was last reported by that guy as being a Tripp Cullman-directed CSC production, which was extremely plausible. But a Broadway production with Nathan Lane stretches plausibility a lot.
Oracle said Lane is Comptroller Schub, which is being expanded.
The idea of turning a part like Schub into a role for a name like Lane is very odd to me. This is definitely something I’d file under, “I’ll believe it when I see it.” I’d like to be surprised but there’s enough here that makes me skeptical.

Give anyone power on social media and they'll find a way to get followers/viewers/people to take their rumors as fact

I will say, not negatively, that in his recent television work Lane has been doing roles he could do in his sleep and proving why that’s not always the worst thing.
Welp if this is for CSC it doesn't seem to be for Fall as they have press release on the other board stating different programming:
"Our Class" and "Merchant of Venice" to run at CSC as part of 'Arlekin in Residence at Classic Stage Company'...9/12-12/22

This.
Unless they're giving Lane a bunch of Cora material, it seems like a waste of his talent and probably not something that's going to fix this weird show (which does need some fixing, not just cosmetic changes).
Who's directing?
I've always thought someone like Matthew Warchus could do interesting things with WHISTLE.

Stephen Sondheim overlooks the creative team or theater company process when they want to develop one of his shows. Due to tragic events, are there any Sondheim NYC productions in the pipeline that he was not aware after 2021 (except for woods, Sweeney, anyone can whistle, etc.)??
Sondheim was aware of and approved the Woods, Sweeney, and Merrily revivals before his passing. He passed right before the Sweeney workshop. He had also approved the version of Here We Are that got produced. Sadly, any revival going forward will likely be something he didn't approve before his death.
I haven’t read the whole thread, I would like to see Passion, never seen or listened to the show. It seems interesting enough and enough time has gone bye.
A full scale production of ROAD SHOW
A revival of PACIFIC OVERTURES
A revival of ANYONE CAN WHISTLE

Audra as Fosca is something that I would love to see. (But, economically, only at a nonprofit)
