I saw Kara more than two years ago, and still vividly remember her performance. She was a great Glinda (Not that I've seen a ton of Glindas, only four) The last time I went to see Wicked, which was almost a year ago, I got understudies for both Elphaba and Glinda, but I thought Michael Campayno was a good Fiyero though relatively forgettable. My favorite Fiyero (I know this is an unpopular opinion) remains Jonah Platt.

He has a very long history with the show! He understudied on the road and then on Broadway from 2007 until he got into Next To Normal in 2010. After that closed, he briefly led the Broadway company, and then did a run on the tour over Christmas 2011. He then did around a year as the lead on Broadway, finishing in May 2013, and then briefly returned in the December of that year for a short 3 month run.
(I know this because I'm borderline obsessed with him. Those eyes!)

I have to say, I'm impressed with how spot on the intel here has been regarding Wicked. So I guess I'll take this opportunity to ask: what happened to Dawn Cantwell?
They announce a new Nessa in the release but her name is noticeably absent from the list of people giving their last perf on the same day.
When was the last time they had an entirely new person as a lead in Wicked on Broadway? Do TPTB just prefer to recycle members from the different companies?
Jonah was "entirely new" and so was Zachary Noah Piser. And the aforementioned Dawn Cantwell. Also off the top of my head: Lindsay Mendez and Derek Klena.
But yes, they prefer to recycle. The show's been open a long time now, and it's always been this way.
Elphaba and Glinda haved pretty much been recycled for the past couple of years. This is the first time in a while that they are recycling a past Fiyero on Broadway

As much as I was hoping this would be a Jessica Vosk announcement, I'm so going back to see Jackie Burns. She blew the roof off the Gershwin when I saw her five years ago.

Dawn left the company early for undisclosed reasons; her two understudies are alternating until the cast change.
Seems like a pretty solid cast, especially Jackie Burns. My guess is they might have Jessica "in line" to take over after Jackie, perhaps. I seem to be one of the only people disappointed in the choice of Fiyero. APA is one of my least favorite Fiyeros - I didn't care for his take on the role or for his voice. (Also, for the the person wondering about non-recycled cast members: Michael Campayno also was new to the show).
BroadwayConcierge: Any thoughts what this tweet from Jessica Vosk might mean?
From a purely selfish pov, when I saw it I immediately hoped it meant solo album! But I'd be happy for anything that's good for her. I can't stop thinking about how good she was when I saw her on tour recently.
I saw Kara, Jennifer, Michael, Zachary, and Sheryl Lee's final performance Saturday. Interestingly enough, Dawn was in the audience. The Playbill was very odd. Dawn's headshot was on the principle page, however, Hannah Shankman was on the cast listing as Nessa as well as on the board in the lobby. The cast listing was printed in the playbill, NOT an insert, odd. I went specifically for Sheryl Lee and she did not disappoint- it was great to see a fresh take on the role. I've seen Kara before in the role and she again was very enjoyable. Boq is a thankless role, Zachary was unmemorable, Jennifer was a great actress, her voice in certain parts just wasn't my fave, and Michael was nice to look at, but the vocals were just not there for me. Still a great night at the theatre no matter what the haters say- and count me in the camp hoping Jessica Vosk is the next Elphie!
jackie is back and she was on fire for her first show back at the gershwin
she fired off some her trademark riff variations in
twai df ngd and was just in the zone in terms of her acting
firstbway show for amanda jane she was tentative at first and got stronger as the show went on
rondi reed and pj benjamin were rock solid as morrible and wizard
ashley parker angel very wooden as fiyero
kristen martin and jye fras a were ok as nessa and boq
outside of jackie this was not one of the strongest casts ive seen
it was totally worth it for jackies performance alone
two small flubs were noted
during second act opener the female dancer with the hat that has like a crescent moon cutout got loose and was swingig wildly around hitting the dancer in her face and frighteningly close to her eyes she was a trooper and plowed through the number
jackie also lost her hat when ducking during the fight scene in act two and caught it as it was falling
some very avid jackie fans in the house one girl i talked to during intermission saw her 30 times during her last bway run
if youve never seen jackie burns as elphaba she is definitely worth seeing and ranks in the top few of all the elphies ive seen

Is anyone seeing Wicked on tour anytime soon? Starting mid-August? Or is there a thread for the Wicked tour?
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
I don't know if Cantwell was injured or on vocal rest, but it seems like she's been out of the show for a while now. I follow Hannah Shankman on instagram and she's been on for Nessa consistently for at least a month. Desk Oakley has been brought back to fill in for Hannah's track.

I've seen the tour a few times while it has been in Philly and the cast is very strong. Jessica Vosk is an incredible Elphaba and I love Ginna Claire Mason's Glinda. The supporting cast will be adjusting a little bit in the next few weeks (Robin DeJesus just left, Sam Seferian returns as Boq tomorrow evening while Jeremy Woodard (Fiyero) and Fred Applegate (The Wizard) will depart 8/20 with Woodard's replacement not known and Tom McGowan joining as the Wizard). That all being said, I definitely feel like the entire company is extremely strong and I definitely feel like the ensemble is much stronger with the tour than on Broadway.
