Re: OH, MARY Reviews (2026 New)

The casting well on this show is just SO deep at this point. There are still so many that could realistically take it on. Melissa McCarthy, Amy Poehler, Bob the Drag Queen. They've made so much money in their high highs that I imagine they can very much cover any lower-performing stints. And even then, have they ever not broken even to this point?

Re: OH, MARY Reviews (2026 New)

I don’t know what their running costs are, but their grosses dipped down below 700k a couple of times when JCM was in it. If that wasn’t below their weekly nut, it was likely close.

Ostensibly he'd have had a lower salary than some of the other stars too. All in all, she's not going anywhere anytime soon, that's for sure.

Bowen will make the show Maya Rudolph type money I think

How long are the Mary’s usually in for? I already have tickets for this Nov 14.

Re: OH, MARY Reviews (2026 New)

I’m sure it’s unrealistic… but damn would I be so interested to see Laurie Metcalf take this on.

Great casting! I'm going to assume Alaska will do a Broadway stint at some point.

The official site lists Bowen's run being through December 6.

Brown through December 6. Someone else jumps in for 8-12 weeks and Alaska joins late February or early March.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

It’s also impressive how much they’ve been able to bring us new Mary’s each time! Who’s gone in more than once- has it just been Cole, Jinkx, and Tituss? Honestly I’d love to see Jane or Betty do another go.

Considering Bowen is ending just before the holidays, that is a prime opportunity for them to bring back someone established for the 6 week Christmas period before rolling out a new Mary for the slow months (Jan-Mar) where historically they can afford to be their most experimental with casting. (Betty, Tituss, JCM)

I would LOVE Jane to come back again. I also would not be surprised if they got Maya Rudolph on board considering how she blew the box office out of the water and the demand exceeded the supply

Re: OH, MARY Reviews (2026 New)

Have tickets ever been as expensive as they are for Bowen? $120 for obstructed view balcony is kind of insane.

Re: OH, MARY Reviews (2026 New)

I bought tickets for November in early July, without knowing who the next Mary would be because I was visiting with a friend who has never seen the show. I was surprised to see my usual $99 orchestra or $79 mezz obstructed view seats increased to $120. Looks like those lower prices return in January.

Re: OH, MARY Reviews (2026 New)

Ridiculous. I got obstructed view balcony for Rudolph for $79. I feel thankful that I find Bowen pretty obnoxious and have no interest in seeing them lol

I like Yang and I love this show but I'm not paying $120 for partial view, even though you don't miss much.

Someone on the UK board posted that the timing of past announcements suggest one might come this week.

Re: OH, MARY Reviews (2026 New)

I went back tonight and…yikes. I had hoped some time would’ve helped Meg curate her Mary into something more…human or someone might have rein her in a bit? Unfortunately, she has pretty much just continued to yell aimlessly and considers changing her volume as her only viable acting choice and it messes with the dynamic of the show. When an ensemble in this show is talented and in-sync, the show FLIES by. This felt like it was dragging out endlessly and, in a farce such as this, that is a deadly pace.

Although I have a ticket for her again, I got a better deal for tonight and I’m dumping that other one. I don’t think I have the patience or the ear strength to listen to her steamroll her way through perfectly set-up jokes that should land every time. (“The South of What” moment was especially cringe), or watch her contort her face unnecessarily.

I will give her credit where due though. Her desk bit was crazy hilarious and she dragged it to just the right amount of time, including teasing Barrett with her foot.

I have tickets for Alaska (in CT), Bowen, and Lolly (UK), so let’s see how the new Mary squad stacks up over the next month or two.

If I had to rank (and removing Cole as the gold standard):

1) Jinkx Monsoon & Jane Krakowski

2) Mason Alexander Park

3) Maya Rudolph

4) Hannah Solow

5) John Cameron Mitchell

6) Betty Gilpin (She was not bad at all and had the unenviable position of being the first to follow Cole)

7) Tituss Burgess

8) Meg Stalter
