How do the book/designs/music arrangements compare to what was at City Center? The set from the one photo I saw looks very similar from what was at Encores.
I’m confused about the Minstrel character in the show. It seems logical the show didn’t need a Minstrel, Wizard, and Jester, but the Minstrel character was in the last two Broadway productions but interestingly was cut from all filmed versions. Does the Minstrels role go to more material for the Wizard/Jester ?
I noticed the show only has two swings. It's not a huge show, but it's odd these days for a show to only have two swings.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

At Encores, they folded the Minstrel into the role of the Jester. I did miss “The Minstrel, The Jester, and I” and the trio version of “Normandy.”

That is ambitious unless the staging can be easily modified for fewer bodies.
It's odd that they cast Kara Lindsay as a standby for Winnifred without covering any other roles. Unless she's actually the third Swing but the production agreed not to credit her as such (which does happen occasionally).
Planning to see this in mid November, just went to look at tickets and HUGE availability, which surprised us based on the cast and how long since this has been on B'way. I guess we wait for discounts?
We moved to SoCal 2 years ago and our Bway visits have dropped to one/year now. We figured we'd see this in NYC and again in LA
Well that goes with the trend of most people not buying way in advance anymore. I'm seeing this on Thursday and I got a front row center dress circle ticket for 150 dollars when they dropped prices three weeks ago. This show is very reasonable, even without discounts. Enjoy.
kudos to this production, because i dont really care for this score, and slapstick shticky humor doesnt do it for me, but they manage to overcome that quite nicely. act 1 especially is a ton of fun, and while the songs screech the humor to a halt for me, the book has been so well wittified and modernized, i found myself laughing out loud quite a bit.
yes, sutton foster is fantastic and more importantly, seems to be having such a blast on stage, from start to finish, its infectious. urie is hilarious. gasteyer is still finding her footing, but still has quite a belt (how did Harriet Harris sing this role?).
i thought by far the mvp of the night though was Daniel Breaker. He makes this guy totally his own, is quite funny from the jump, and then breaks your heart (with an out of left field number) in Act 2. Really hope hes remembered next spring, he was the highlight for me tonight.
Front balcony was fine for this. Audience absolutely ate this up.
Can anyone tell me if they are doing an in person rush for this? Playbill rush policy states only a digital rush but I know some shows still do an in person even if not listed....Thanks!!

Damn. I wasn’t going to see this again. But I’m gonna have to go back for Breaker. The Encores guy didn’t do it for me. And I love Breaker in everything he’s been in.

Why is this a surprise? Sutton Foster has been on Broadway 3x since Broadway reopened post-Covid, she already did a 2-week run of Mattress at City Center, and others who might have a little bit of sales value (Gasteyer and to a lesser extent Urie and Chase) are not being advertised with any prominence. The decision to move this to Broadway is a little baffling.

Certainly cant speak for what Ghee did, but if you like Breaker's tone/vibe, yes I strongly recommend a return visit.
Any chance this extends at all? Can't be back in NYC until early December and it is scheduled to close 4 days prior. We were there this weekend and had already booked shows when it was playing (no Sunday matinee yesterday so we saw Titanique instead).

I don’t think so… it begins LA performances on 12/10 and it’s already a quick turnaround.

Ah, yup that is that then. I thought for some reason they didn't move to LA until January 2025. Oh well, I'll just continue to tell myself I'm not a big Foster fan and be OK with having to miss it. :) Ha!

I'm not saying it's setting the box office alight either - they have more inventory tomorrow night for example than I think would be ideal. However, in NYC theatre these days November feels ages away. If you go to look at Hamilton's availability Mid-November (19th November example below) you will find they've barely sold a ticket.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
has anyone tried in person rush? how early are people lining up? And where were the seats? front Side orchestra or elsewhere in theater? I have a friend in town Friday and i've offered to queue up for rush tix.
Can anyone that has been to see this confirm that it’s actually running 2hrs 15min? I’m trying to make a two-show day with a 2pm matinee of Mattress and then Titanique at 5pm. Thanks!

That’s cutting it pretty close. Titanique is downtown, so even if the show ends at 2:20/2:25 since shows start a bit late, you’ll have to book it to the subway. Good luck.
