So, what are people’s thoughts on Patti's Tweet?
I must admit, I don’t think attempting to out someone, or implying someone is gay because they don't call someone out, is acceptable.
I understand her frustration and anger, but there are different ways to call someone out.
Patti’s Tweet:
Lindsey Graham you are a disgrace. On a personal note, why dont you just bite the bullet and come out. You might just come to your senses.

I honestly don't care what anybody says about Lindsey Graham, who has done far more harm to this country than LuPone ever could with a mean tweet.

I hate Lindsey Graham as much as the next person but what a distasteful and ignorant comment on her end. There's no proof he's gay, and everyone has a right to come out when they want to. Frankly this is incredibly distasteful and disgusting of her.

Oh please...there's also no "proof" that the sun will rise tomorrow. Yet somehow I believe it will -- just not quite as much as I believe that Lindsay is a great big raging (hypocritical) MO! When you publicly condemn that what you actually are -- you lose your right to "privacy". Same thing with Aaron Schock.

Not a good decision on Lupone's part. Graham's sexuality has nothing whatsoever to do with his hypocritical, deceitful, sophist, inherent prejudices. BTW, in a televised interview in 2015, he called Trump a bigoted racist xenophobe. Maybe he said Trump is not a racist this past week because people asking the question left out bigoted xenophobe and Graham simply misunderstood the question. You think?
I will add, I do not support outing anyone ever, with one very specific exception. Any politician who is gay or bisexual and in the closet, yet votes to deny LGBTQ citizens equal rights and protection from descrimination should be outed. A public servant making those decisions, which will lead to increased danger and decreased rights for a large segment of the population, while keeping such pertinent information hidden is a hypocrite who has earned the right to be exposed.

Did you mean to say acceptable?

Yep, this. Makes her look just as bad as someone like Donald who blatantly disrespects people on a public format. It’s despicable. If you wanna support her that’s totally fine but at least own your hypocrisy.

I agree with you that Lupone is out of line here because Graham's sexuality has nothing to do with the issue at hand.
BTW, if a conservative pundit or politician outed Graham because he voted against legislation which supports LGBTQ rights and protections, I'd say, "Good for you!"

Patti doesn't purport to represent or speak for anyone but herself. Suggesting that a confirmed bachelor senator with Southern belle affectations who has debased himself and his country and defended word and deed that has led to the actual suffering of innumerable groups of people in his desperate attempts to grasp at political power and influence is gay is nothing.
Get a grip.

It’s a pretty poorly kept secret that Lindsey Graham is gay.

Since mainstream reporters use the classic euphemism “confirmed bachelor” for Graham it’s not much of a stretch to say he’s not even in the closet but halfway in halfway out. Kevin Spacey type thing.

I have long thought that Graham has become Trump's lapdog because Trump has something on him, and he is afraid it is going to go out. Most colleagues in DC probably don't care -- he's in the club -- but Trump could say something or release something that would hurt Graham's career. And, ultimately, IMO, many of the Republican senators and congressmen, Graham included, are behind him because they are afraid they will not get re-elected if they do not. He has a lot of power with his base and telling them not to vote for anyone will translate into losing the election..
Point: Patti must be thinking the same thing I have thought for a long time.

Graham is an enemy of the LGBTQ community. He deserves to be called out. THANK YOU, Patti LuPone! You speak for me.

Posted: 7/19/19 at 2:09pmOh I certainly don’t disagree he’s a power hungry closeted gay, I also don’t disagree there are closeted politicians who are anti gay. I’m just saying what Patti did here doesn’t help anytbing at all and makes her look terrible. Just my opinion. As a gay man, (obviously one who wouldn’t vote against myself however), I’d be appalled if someone ever tried outing me that publicly. It’s one thing gay are able to control in a life where some things have been out of our control. There are a million other things to attack Lindsey graham on.

Shes not REALLY trying to out him, I think she's just trying to insult him -- which I think makes her tweet worse.
And if she is, its certainly not the first time someone has suggested it.
