Phillipa Soo to lead AMELIE on Broadway

wow! no wonder she said no to Comet. I've been wondering about this show lately but assumed it was dead in the water.

I hope this is true and it would make A LOT of sense why she allegedly turned down comet. I've been hearing about this show for a while though.

Assuming this is true, good for her. She's radiant on stage and I've heard this is a great show. It would be wonderful to see her lead in this.

Why wouldn't it be true? Sounds perfect.

Was she in the workshop that happened two years ago?

I thought Barks was great. Would have loved to see her transfer.

Phillipa was involved in workshops of Amelie. I don't know which one you're referring to.

she'd get to stay in LA for a while with her fiance as well which probably works great for her.

Amazing!! I couldn't be happier. I loved Sam Barks in the role, but I think Pippa can bring it to a whole new level. I'm also happy that Amelie's transfer is still going ahead as planned.
I've said it several times before in other threads, but I'll say it again: I'm really rooting for the show because I found it to be very beautiful and charming at Berkeley Rep, and I hope they continue to make it even better.

"she'd get to stay in LA for a while with her fiance as well which probably works great for her. "
I'm sure it was negotiated that way on purpose.

Anyone else notice they call it "L.A's Berkeley Repertory Theatre"? Someone didn't do any research on where Berkeley Rep is, which is weird since all the research that is required is knowing the name of the theatre.

Why does everyone misspell Juilliard?

do we think it will come in next year after the LA production or wait until 17-18?

Good for her. I'm eating my hat now.

Didn't it already have a cali run?

I do wonder about Samantha Barks. I think she would be considered a bigger "star" even with the Hamilton hype, so it's interesting that they go back to someone less "famous" from the try-out. Back when this played in Berkeley is sounded likes she Samantha was supposed to stay with the show.
But if Phillipa was in an early workshop (not a lab) she might have had first right of refusal? Or do you give that right up if do don't do a subsequent production for some reason .
Either way, I'm glad this show is still happening. I've heard good things and I can see how this material would lend itself beautifully for a musical.

It needs another tryout. More work, different city.

I have not seen any producer associated with this information. Previously Aaron Harnick (nephew of Sheldon, son of Barbara Barrie) was named but it would not surprise me to learn he has glommed onto some a-list producer.
