I remember Sam being very well received in Les Miz among the younger cast. People preferred her character over Cosette for Marius's love interest. They liked her spunk.

People always prefer Eponine to Cosette, doesn't matter who is playing them. She was well received in the movie as she was one of the only people cast who could sing her part and she is pretty but she's one of the weaker West End Eponines of the last decade.
she belted none of it though, so I don't agree that she was right for it.

umm what? she didn't belt (and no one else belted, as you might have noticed) because she was directed that way, because according to hooper- that's how you sing on film...
I agree her acting was dull both on film and onstage- Eponine isn't a lovesick teenager and yet most insist on playing her that way (including Lea Michelle)
But Sam can belt. not gloriously but she can..
the whole casting of that film was off but whatever
Happy for Soo- she's a very busy lady

I certainly disagree that her scting was dull. I totally totally bought her as a hard living street girl and her singing of " on my own" was beautiful and raw.

LOL
Eh, I think Lea gives it more depth than just a lovesick teenager, but nonetheless, I can't wait to see Phillipa in this. Is the score belty or legit? I know next to nothing about this show.

I know nothing about the show but I know Hem, the band of the composer, which has a female lead singer, and it doesn't sound belty or legit at all. I'd call it contemporary folk. (The band did the music for the last 12th Night in the Park, if that refreshes any recollections.) Of course, that does not mean this show doesn't have a totally different sound, and since some have seen and heard it they can provide better info, but I would be very surprised.
Well, this explains why Samantha Barks isn't returning. Perfect show for her!

I'm not sure. The Last Five Years is a month-long run in a small London theatre that finishes before Amelie starts in LA. Even if she couldn't have done both, I think if offered she would have chosen Broadway over that.
i am really excited for this show. very happy for phillipa - she deserves every success that comes her way.

Ah yay so happy Adam is still a part of this. Glad they're aiming for Spring as well.
Huh. Manoel Felciano will be in the ensemble of AMELIE. Did he choose a ensemble part over a leading role? ??

I'm gonna guess they offered Gleb to Ramin on Broadway first.
Based on a quick comparison of the Berkeley cast with this cast, it seems likely that Felciano will be playing the roles of Amelie's father and Bretodeaux (played in Berkeley by John Hickok). Heath Calvert will probably play Lucien (played in Berkeley by Perry Sherman). Harriet D. Foy will probably be playing Gina (Carla Duren in Berkeley), and Emily Afton will probably be the female swing (Shannon O'Boyle in Berkeley). Everyone else, with the exception of Soo, looks to be the same.

So excited for Adam. He was incredible in Sunday in the Park
Which theater will this take? The Lyceum, Walter Kerr, and (hopefully not the) Jacobs will be vacant in the spring and not undergoing renovations. (Did the Cort officially begin?)
I'm guessing it moves into the Kerr.

Yeah pretty sure it will be the Walter Kerr.

I really loved Adam in this when I saw it at Berkeley Rep. He really spoke to my hopeless-romantic side.
Kerr's stage would suit the Berkeley's staging really well.
Dysquith13 - what's wrong with Jacobs? I think the sightlines are really good even from rear mezz, and the overhang is not nearly as annoying as it is at Kerr.

I think Dysquith meant that they hoped The Color Purple wouldn't be closed by then but I assume it will be.
Amelie will officially be coming to Broadway this spring...
