Reimagined THE FANTASTICKS will open on Broadway this fall — Page 2

I've just realized that this marks something of a mission-change for 2nd Stage under the new leadership:

Up to this point, the company has been "exclusively devoted to living American writers." Tom Jones & Harvey Schmidt have been dead 3 and 8 years.

any idea when tickets go on sale ?

While I agree this is the quintessential off Bway show, I certainly look forward to having my mind changed! I'll be buying Tix.

When will they anounce the cast for this? Will they get any "names"?

I liked seeing Once Upon a Mattress in 2024 on Broadway with a starry cast doing classic material. I don't think it sold well because it was too simple for modern audiences. So maybe this is the sort of thing that a non-profit Broadway should be doing. Afterwards plenty of regional theatres may take on this version & advertise it as the new Broadway version.

Single tickets will go on sale tomorrow at 12 noon EST.

Sutton Ross said: "The original production spent $900 on sets and $542 on costumes in 1960 and it ran in a little off-Broadway theater for 42 years. It’sthe world’s longest runningmusical, and the longest running continuous showof any kindin the United States, which is pretty cool. It's a bit outdated, but I'm looking forward to their fresh take."

$1,442 in 1960 is equivalent to $16,303 today (2026).

How Luisa Became Lewis in the World’s Longest-Running Musical

A nice interview with Sam Davis, the music supervisor/orchestrator who has orchestrated it for 8 players. (Jonathan Tunick also orchestrated it years ago, but this isn't the Tunick.)

The orchestra will be:

• 3 strings
• Reed
• Trumpet
• Bass
• Piano/Celeste
• Harp

first footage of Zane Phillips’ Try To Remember…i have no idea why people thought this was bad casting, he sounds so dreamy here…"

He is very handsome, but that performance confirms exactly what I suspected, unfortunately. A thin, strained voice on a song that’s fairly easy to sing if you have the range, and that weird BFA in Musical Theatre affectation that so many younger actors have these days (words like “December” become “Deshember” because a softer ‘s’ implies sincerity). This did zero to entice me to finally buy tickets.

Yikes! Hopefully he'll be bare-chested underneath the cape and scarf.
