Nice info on David Hyde Pierce. Talk about being a class act.
Riedel is such an idiot. He's always so clueless.
The show isn't called "Natasha and Pierre," Riedel, and to say it has "no chance" of winning Best Musical is quite a stretch.

While I agree that the race is now between Come From Away and Dear Evan Hansen, it is a pretty bold statement to say Great Comet has no chance anymore

I agree that it's a bit of a two-man race for lead actor in a musical, but Platt has been the safest bet for a prediction all season. Are things actually changing?
I'm also always amazed when someone doesn't believe that Ben Platt is deserving of that Tony. Say what you want about the show, but there is someone wrong if you can't recognize Platt's virtuosic performance in DEH. Andy Karl is great, but his role (even though it is a physically demanding performance) is no where near as vocally or emotionally demanding as Platt's. Platt's performance is absolutely one of the greatest performances that I have ever seen and probably will ever see. Riedel is just being an ass by saying otherwise.
I honestly don't really think that there is a two man race. Platt is basically a lock. Yes, if Platt were not there, Karl would win, but Platt is there and is giving a performance that is out of this world.

Well, based on Riedel's predictions from previous years, either Great Comet or DEH should expect to have a clean sweep at the Tonys, with CFA being shut out.
I actually agree with him for once

Girl, you wish. Sashay away.
What is this "best supporting actor" category to which Riedel refers? I don't see it on the Tony Awards site or in the rules.

icecreambenjamin, I really don't believe you when you tell people to say what they like about the show. In a previous thread where people were attempting to have an intelligent discussion about the flaws within the book of the show, you said what equated to "la la la I can't hear you it's perfect and you're all wrong". Honestly, that's fine (I've been known to steamroll those who disagree with me myself), but it's not like you're particularly objective about the show.
That being said, Ben Platt gave an all-time great performance in Dear Evan Hansen. The kind of musical performance that will get talked about in twenty five or thirty years as still one of the most fundamentally complete and powerful performances people have ever seen. The show sucks, but hey, what can you do?
I think Riedel is sexy! Something tells me he would be a tiger under the sheets!
Riedel is an idiot. He's the Dick Morris of Broadway predictions. Andy Karl deserves it? Why? Because he tore his ACL?

I hope Riedel is right about Dolly!, but I've learned never to underestimate the tenacity of the the powers that be in trampling on things that give people joy.
I fear he is only too right about A Doll's House, 2, alas. Just look at the plethora of nominations the critics' darling got. The woeful business it has been doing indicates just what appeal it holds for the public. So now the public has to be "taught" (i.e., indoctrinated) to see it--- and say they like it, no matter what! It's the kind of smart-ass, "look at how hip and cool I am," play that flatters smart-ass "look at how hip and cool I am" people by reaffirming how hip and cool they are. Unfortunately, there are numerous people of that stripe who decide what should win awards --- and what should not.
What a world.
He is such a bag of crap. It feels like a high school journalism student wrote that article.
The same few people on here who seem obsessed with DEH and Platt to the point of annoying are a reason I would rather see Andy Kark win.

Does Riedel start these threads on here just to have people talk about him? His articles are the worst and he makes up half of what he writes. Can people be banned on here for starting threads based on his articles?

Well, this site could ban posters for starting threads you don't like, or I dunno, you could just ignore them.

Andy Karl is VERY popular wth Tony voters, especially after all his hard work the last few years.
months ago I thought Platt was a definite, but hmmm I'm not so sure now.
A few Tony voter friends of mine are hugely championing Karl. We shall see.
the tenacity of the the powers that be in trampling on things that give people joy.
That perfectly describes everything you post.

Given that 13 of the past 17 years the musical with the most nominations has won, I have a hard time believing Great Comet has "no chance".
