This is great news! We already have a possible Best Musical winner for next season. Also, I'll be able to keep my ticket for the run at the Public and we'll probably get a cast recording sooner rather than later. I bet they'll try to record before they open on Broadway so they can have it out for their opening.
I have my doubts about whether the commercial appeal will be large enough to make it to the Tonys, but I wish it all the best. I love the show, and really hope it makes a splash on Broadway.
Ah, you're right Kad! Interesting. Most other news sources claim it's going to a theater to be announced… but they even note the "return" to the Rodgers for LMM, which makes it seem like a sure bet. Now I don't know!
Interestingly, this leaves the Rodgers open for April through June ... just long enough for another show with Tony ambitions to possibly sneak in for a limited engagement - The Iceman Cometh. I have heard that they think Lane has a great shot at a Tony if they can get a Broadway transfer after Iceman's BAM run is done in mid-March.
Several of the actors have commitments starting in July. I know Lane has been rumored to potentially return to It's Only A Play in April but I don't think anyone has confirmed that is definite?
Broadway.com and Playbill originally (literally as soon as it was announced) noted the TBA theatre, but it is looking like all the articles have been since edited and the Rodgers is confirmed!

I imagine the show will begin to load in to the Rogers in May/June. There could be time for an ultra-limited concert engagement, etc., in April, but not a full production.

Not sure why Harvey would be doing backflips- Can't we easily see a scenario where Fun Home, The Visit, An American in Paris and (yes) Honeymoon in Vegas are the 4 nominees for Best Musical.. with Something Rotten and/or Doctor Zhivago taking that 5th wild card slot? Finding Neverland is not going to win anyway, no matter how good Weinstein is at orchestrating Oscar campaigns. The people doing backflips, I would imagine, are the people involved in the shows I listed above, all of which (based on reviews, reviews from their pre-Broadway runs, or industry buzz) are actually supposed to be quite good.
I guess all those involved with FUN HOME can be taken off life support after the drama these last couple of days and yes it is going into the Rodgers as that has always been Lin's choice of theater as told to me by an industry friend.
Now it will compete with the following musicals either set or planned (hoping) for next season: Not sure if any of these can match up to the artistry or brilliance of Hamilton...I doubt it but we'll see!

It's 10 weeks after the Public closure, so any comparison with FUN HOME doesn't really line up. I suspect it will be an easy sell. The David Brooks piece in the Times, following the WSJ endorsement suggests: even Republicans are besotted.
And on that score, since someone is bound to say it, may I? This show may well have what ROCKY didn't ultimately have. We know. That much-discussed, highly elusive demographic that supposedly eschews musical theater, other than a reprise of "One Day More" on their ipod when drunk. As Kathy Lee and Hoda would dub them, "guys." Guys will flock. Except guys don't flock. Guys will ... knock each other down for center orchestra, how's that?
