Basically, when asked about the breakup, Dove said Ryan "was terrible to [her]" on Instagram. He also tweeted some very questionable things a few years back that were about "fat" people and calling girls ugly.
Elfuhbuh said: "The only thing I could find about this guy being abusive was that Dove Cameron vaguely said he was “terrible” to her in some Instagram post. I think the Stan Twitter crowd just wants something to get outraged about now that James Barbour in Phantom isn’t a thing anymore, so they’re clinging to any little scrap they can find to make it out like the Next James Barbour Situationis happening."
Well, people have been upset about this for a while, as far as I can see. Dove Cameron is a legitimate celebrity (maybe not A list, but she's not only known to theatre kids). So this controversy isn't only known to Stan Twitter or theatre nerds.
Sure, but a lot of this just looks like gossip and jumping to conclusions. I can’t find anything where Dove openly came out and said she was abused, and yet people are acting like it’s gospel.
The show is the star. Nobody cares about this random dude, and I seriously doubt this will affect ticket sales in the slightest for a huge show like Wicked. The weirdos who stood in front of Phantom to protest Mr. Barbour (thinking it would actually make a difference) failed since everyone in line just ignored them. Same thing here.
People are acting like if they tweet about it enough, he'll drop this like Patankin dropped Great Comet even though the scenarios are completely different. Give this guy a chance!
I will say I think there's quite a difference between people being up in arms about the casting of someone who admitted to sexual crimes against a minor versus someone who's the subject of conspiracy theories on stan Twitter. That being said, Wicked is a brand name; few people go to see the show because of who's in it at any given time.
^ Yeah, exactly. I understood the outrage about Barbour, but the people on Twitter trying to “unstan” Wicked and act like unproven, gossipy assumptions about the Ryan/Dove relationship are in any way on the same level are being ridiculous.
Yeah, if anyone is trying to affect ticket sales because of McCartan, they are really misguided.

I never heard of him until I Googled him yesterday when I saw him on I believe it was Jessica's IG story saying he is her new Fiyero. I still have no clue who he is. I'll be seeing him on flea market day and the 15th anniversary though.

I don't think this has already been said on the thread but to give McCartan a bit more theatrical cred he won the Jimmy Award back in 2011 as a teen -- not that can assure stardom or even success but he hasn't done badly.
The person who had the stars align was Jimmy Award finalist several years back Eva Noblezada. Cameron Mackintosh was making his London reboot of Miss Saigon and Manila hadn't supplied him a Lea Salonga-type presence like many years before. They decided to check out NY and the timing somewhat meshed with the Jimmys that year -- didn't hurt that Eva's aunt was a MS alum -- lending a familiarity of the show to Eva.

I wish they kept Curt Hansen a bit longer he is a great fiyero and has great chemistry with Jessica Vosk and Amanda Jane Cooper.
If they wanted a bigger name for the 15th Aniversery they should have brought back Kyle Dean Massey one of the best Fiyero's.
Kept? Do you know if he WANTED to stay.
McCarten was not hired for his name.
Curt was always meant to be a temp replacement between Ashley and Ryan, so it's not a matter of him being kept or not it was very much a temporary run.
Personally I'm excited to see Ryan as I loved his voice during Heathers and it's always nice to see Wicked bring in actual new blood to the show.

To the poster's credit, he did play a lead role in a major television adaptation of a well known stage/film musical property. With some other major stars. It seems totally legit to me to have this announcement on BWW and as post about it.

Not unless the stuntis getting us to Google who this is..."
hahahahaha, yes. My first thought was Ryan who?

The children of Stan Twitter need to be outraged about something. Otherwise they can't gain "woke" points. And their bones won't grow properly.

That's how I feel! Plus, people are completely focused on speculation, and vague tweets, not outright details about what happened (even though it's really none of our business). Also, this makes me really sad because people are so focused on Ryan that I'm afraid they'll ignore how absolutely INCREDIBLE Jessica Vosk is. Don't let one rumor/speculation ruin a show for you! The rest of the cast is amazing. Please don't do this to Jessica. She's one of the best- if not the best- Elphabas I've ever seen.
Nothing to worry about: their whining won't create one ounce of difference for the show.

Thank you for that :) You're right. Plus "horrible to her"...that could NOT be more vague. I can't STAND the "stan" generation. They really make theater a lot less enjoyable with their unnecessary drama. It makes me sad.
I say just ignore them, and enjoy the fact that you're better than them :)

Can we please stop saying the show is cancelled, or that "ph, It sucks Elphaba doesn't have a Fiyero right now", saying Wicked is cancelled, that it's closing....What may or may not have happened between two people in show business is frankly none of our business. We can speculate, but we will never know what really happened unless one of them outright says something.
I say we move past this, and focus on how amazing Jessica Vosk is and the rest of the cast. That's where I am.
^ You might want to go tell that to the kiddos over on Twitter.

I really like what I've seen of him from Heathers and that Rocky Horror is best forgotten. The only things I know about him outside of that I learned from Who Weekly. Unless his ex makes a statement, it seems premature to start any kind of campaign. Not that logic has ever stopped teenagers on the internet.

My curiosity got the better of me, and I took a look. OMG those people are lunatics. They're objecting to his casting over something he hasn't even alleged to have done. They are are making a gross assumption about him. What's amusing is that they are so hysterical that even if they had real knowledge, no one would believe them. But it still isn't as bad as that crazy Spongebob stalker girl.
