Are you guys serious? Chenoweth? People have been waiting for her to come back to Broadway for so long. She just won the Emmy, and a lot of people who don't really follow Broadway know her as well. I am pretty sure she would sell tickets.
I'm a professional. Whenever something goes wrong on stage, I know how to handle it so no one ever remembers. I flash my %#$&.
"Jayne just sat there while Gina flailed around the stage like an idiot."
Even if this show didn't have a longer run than "The Little Mermaid" it's not the end of the world. There are shows that were better that didn't last longer like "Legally Blonde," "Young Frankenstein," and "9 to 5."
You know, there are a few shows on Broadway that aren't cheesy movie-to-musical remakes.

I didn't say she wouldn't sell tickets. She's sure as hell not gonna sell 14,088 seats every week. The Broadway Theater has 1,761 seats. That's a HUGE theater...especially for a show headlining a C-lister like Chenoweth. Just because she won an Emmy doesn't make her a celebrity or mean people who "know her" or know of her will rush to buy tickets...
I fell in love with the "Let Your Freak Flag Fly" song when I saw it on this year's Tony Awards. A very catchy song with a great message. Best of luck to the cast and crew.

Yes, I'm serious. There's no way that an obscure revival with that cast would turn a profit at the Broadway.
Listen, I don't take my clothes off for anyone, even if it is "artistic". - JANICE
I am puzzled as to how well an obscure revival will sell in a house that large. I wish them luck, but it seems like they'd be better off in a smaller house.
I also want to say that the songwriters for this musical put more effort into it than the writers of the "101 Dalmatians" musical. After hearing two of those songs song in Broadway in Chicago that show seemed like it was nothing more than a "Blues Clues" or "Dora the Explorer" live show that is only for pre-schoolers. "I Know It's Today," "Who I'd Be," and "Morning Person," are very clever songs.
beautywickedlover, you cannot judge if you did not hear the entire score. So don't just say that one songwriting team put more effort into the score than another team. Give it up already!

Just put CMIYC in the Broadway & Minsky's in the Marquis. FWC shouldn't come near a Broadway house. Promises, Promises needs a smaller theater. I don't care what stars are in it, something like the Schoenfeld or Nederlander would be perfect.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
I'm kinda shocked. My friend already bought the tickets for Sutton's last show on the 24th! I honestly didn't know this was coming, I wasn't aware that Shrek was selling so low.
But I will be at Shrek's last show, and I will see it a couple more times before closing. *sigh* This was such a great show, and am proud that by closing I would have seen it eight times! I can't get enough of it.

C-Lister? Boy are you naive. She was on "The West Wing" and "Pushing Daisies" for two years. More people will see her in one night on the lowest rated episode of Daisies than two years in "Wicked". NEVER underestimate the power of TV.
TARZAN ran for a year and lost a bundle. Same for LITTLE MERMAID. Now SHREK follows suit. I can only say that's wonderful. These children's-movies-to-musicals are killing what little is left of Broadway's reputation in the theater world. "Side-Show Broadway" is a better term for this tripe. I hope the flop trend continues and kills this genre in short order.

Thanks to television, she is more recognizable, but she's still not a "star" that could fill a thousand seats a night. I'd agree that she's on the C-List, maybe hovering on the B-List after her Emmy win.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention...I'm the good cop, he's the bad cop.

I'll probably be in the minority here, but I'm sick of people making statements how children's musicals and musicals based on movies are killing Broadway's reputation. Just because a show isn't original or isn't geared towards an older crowd doesn't make it tripe.
Yes, it is a shame these shows (Tarzan, Mermaid, Shrek) were flops, but I don't think this genre of musicals should necessarily die off. Often shows such as the ones listed are gateway shows for young people who may grow to love going to the theater. I also think it is important to provide entertainment that families can enjoy.

I wouldnt consider Kristen Chenoweth on the "C - List"
She won an Emmy, She wony a Tony. Has appeared in tv shows, movies, and musicals.
She has a somewhat well known following and I would consider her a "B list celebrity".
But how we got from Shrek to Chenoweths "c-list" is beyond me :P
I am really gonna miss Shrek. I really loved the show alot and its such a shame that it's closing. Dispite everyone critizing the score, I enjoyed it. Song such as "Who I'd be", "Freak Flag", "This is our story" etc..All spoke "real" problems through fairy tale creatures.
Life isint always princes and princesses and happily ever after.
When I saw the show in Seattle I remember walking out and saying, "Wow. I really loved the music. The sets were cool and the costumes too, but the music really stood out." At the stage door afterwards, Jeanine Tesori walked out, and I could kick myself for not saying something to her about her work and how much I love her music.
