Agree.  The vocal warmth isn't there.  Neither is the great build.

I hope she can fix it.

There was no invited dress last night.

Caroline is purposefully not singing in her robust sound as this character helping the role of Ivy shine.  She's pulling it back.  Google her in Evita and you'll see the Ivy in her voice, not showcased in Smash, purposefully.

I rather doubt she is holding back -- its a promotion aimed to sell tickets not instill doubts in the singing abilities of its main players. This is definitely in a lower key than what was done in the series. Can any musicians confirm?

A very in line with Smash first preview.

Very fun but also the friendliest house I’ve ever seen ?

Curious for Act 2.

Are there many new songs in ''Smash''?

Just wondering if there are enough of them that'll allow it to be Tony-eligible for Best Original Score.

Someone posted the song list in the playbill earlier in the topic. No new songs from what can be seen though the last song might be a new one as while there is a song called "Smash" from the TV show, it's already in act one and the last song is titled differently. There was only one new song back when they did the open rehearsal and thankfully it is not on the song list. Good, cus it was terrible back then.

Would any brave soul be willing to explain how they’ve managed to lighten up the ending/how the ending has changed?

Seems like the DiMaggio plot is significantly trimmed considering it was one of the main plots on Tv

One of the best they wrote for the show - very underrated.

Anyone have any reports on the show? I’m really on the fence on this one.

Bombshell opens to mediocre reviews but inspired by Scott (musicals version of Ellis), the team behind it decide to create the musical Smash in universe.

Ivy comes to her senses after a sweet scene with Karen and fires Susan.

I just wanted to eat up everything that came out of Nielsen’s mouth in the staged reading I saw. I hope she still gets to steal the show in this iteration.

Coppola was fantastic as well.

Having seen the open dress rehearsal… I miss the ending where Ivy dies. This feels… idk. Too fluffy.

I’m gonna need Brooks Ashmanskas to get a Tony nom for this one. He’s playing one of the funniest roles on bway right now.
