All my Bernadette dreams except Mrs Lovett come true. I am so happy!
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
I posted this in the other thread, but posting again here:
I think we should hold off on this. This looks very suspicious to me. If it ends up being true I’ll happily admit to being wrong, but I really think everyone should wait for a more reliable confirmation.
I've spoken to friends at various outlets - no one has received a press release. An announcement like this would've come with a 10am embargo, so it's not adding up.

You’d think if an “official announcement” was being made at 10am, it would be accompanied by a full press release and probably even a video with Peters and Lane talking about their excitement or something and not just a simple photo that anyone could photoshop. Not saying it’s not true but it’s a horrible “announcement” if it is.
No director or producers named? No press releases on any of the theater sites? Strangely uneven font? A dead website link? Announced solely on a social media platform that doesn’t verify anymore? It’s definitely suspect for now.

Something like this would have absolutely come with a press release that is embargoed until the announcement. Stars of this caliber, Sondheim's final musical..... There'd be a release. And that release would've dropped everywhere at 10.

I am someone who normally gets press releases for this type of Bway announcement in my inbox. And I was desperately hoping for this to be real, and kept waiting...and waiting. But I've received nothing. And reaching out to other industry friends who would have received the press release I'm finding that no one has received a single thing about this.
Given that not a single person in the press was notified, no tickets are on sale, no dates given, and the "poster" looks shall we say....interesting, I'm calling this 100% false. Someone is playing a cruel joke.
It's just so weird that NOBODY else has reported this besides these accounts.
I do still think it's possible it's true. It's definitely interesting that the very first accounts to follow this Twitter account were The Public, Playbill, Audience Rewards, Theatremania, and IHeartRadioBroadway.
Hopefully, David, Bernedette, Nathan, or somebody who actually knows can come out and say if it is or isn't. Would be funny if a prank makes them admit that it is coming (and I do still believe that it is).
They also have no website and the URL was purchased 2 days ago - both things that any Broadway show planning to sell tickets would have had done and live prior to announcing anything.
The most suspect thing is that Peters and Lane are not billed alphabetically. When they are exactly the same name value and his agents would no doubt demand alpha billing.
I just don't know why someone would bother to waste time making this up - it'll get shut down almost immediately. And they have tweeted Bernadette's official account so it'll quickly get corrected. I'm cautiously optimistic. The artwork seems like a genuine attempt even if it's plain.

I really hope we all haven't been made fools of for this! If this was after all a fake, this has to be the most disrespectful act to Mr. Sondheim!
The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince

I just sent the message to the Mods asking them to delete this thread. I think it’s fake and a sad and cruel hoax.
Nobody has been made a fool of. That’s obviously what the person who made this wanted but people acted the way they would when an announcement like this is teased.
Best thing to do would be to end all discussions of this right here and end their “fun”.

Why? What's wrong with us discussing even if it is fake?
Well, as of now, the only two viable possibilities is that it’s a hoax or it’s one of the most botched announcements in Broadway history. Neither are great.

I agree! Still though, this is a VERY DISRESPECTFUL act to play! Especially with Stephen Sondheim's work!
