Def a Foster fan, but never seen her LIVE. Would love to see this but can't shell out near $200 for such a small little show. But I wouldn't say Foster is the most "gritty" or "real" actress.
I was there last night and pretty much echo what everyone has been saying. This is a great production of a great show. Sutton Foster is a dynamite, a firecracker, and just a joy to watch from beginning to end. I have seen Sutton Foster on stage a few times, and she has never disappointed me. She is so talented, and it's so fun to see her take on a role that lets her show her comedic side.
I LOVED the set and costumes. This would make a great fit at the Circle in the Square (and I do hope this transfers there in the Spring). There was definitely a gritty edge to the physical production. My only gripe is that the orchestra is WAY too small. I think the local dinner theatre in my hometown had a bigger and more full sounding orchestra.
LOVEDLOVEDLOVED the ending they went with. It is chilling and fits the tone of the production perfectly. I would definitely recommend checking this out (if you can still get tickets).

EXTENDED AGAIN! They just put up a block of tickets through January 8th.

Sutton actually removes the wig on stage several times during the show to reveal a wig cap. She changes her wig when she is working, as do the other girls. It's a strange choice, and the wigs do look very cheap.
The back of the wig isn't too awful...but the front is so ugly.

At least when I saw it, she only removed a wig (revealing a cap) when she quit in the dance hall, and I assumed that her usual wig was meant to be her "real" hair. I liked the moment.
So they are going for a Charity can't afford a good wig angle. Many women in the 60's just wore wigs as part of their daily life, and one can only imagine dance hall girls couldn't really afford a fancy one or good looking one.
Also, the set looks so much like the CABARET one in that pic!
Mr. Nowack--I didn't want to just flat-out say it in my initial report, just writing that this is a very familiar kind of stripped-down revival. But as soon as I walked in, I thought, "Oh, I'm at Cabaret."
stop extending the show and just announce a Broadway transfer already!!
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
Well what is Sutton's shooting schedule for her TV show? I assume one of the reasons this was debuted in a limited off Broadway season was that she has commitments that would keep her from doing a Broadway schedule this season.

I think in all of the excitement that some forgot that she has a commitment to a television series.
I'm guessing she'll pull double duty (filming during the day, show at night) the last couple of weeks of the run, film for a few months, then have a late April opening on broadway.
It looks like the show films in the late spring-early fall. So if she did come to Broadway this season, it would likely also have to be a limited run and perhaps transfer right away.
