Yes, of course because you weren’t the one who was abused and had a computer monitor smashed a good your head or had a stapler hurled in your direction.
You guys are BEYOND ridiculous. You pick and choose who you decide to cancel based on what fits your needs.
YOU SUCK!

Who cares if he was mean? No one is forced to work with him. No empty houses,no short runs, and you suck.

Thank goodness most of yall aren’t producers because you have zero clue. The man knew how to produce and the way he advertised, like it or not, and the talent he brought to the street impacted everything. Though that was the era of people seeing more shows than just one or two per season, I don’t know that he could put on his usual slate of 4-5 shows and see success, but no one can say he didn’t know what he was doing. It would be delusional to say otherwise.
Maybe he will bring back the Laurie Metcalf Joe mantello who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf

I would love that as it's the only show that I had tickets to in Spring 2020 that I wasn't able to see post-Covid. Does Rudin or his company still have the rights to the show? I don't know how that works, but I am curious.

Interesting piece -
Says he’s planning to produce 3 Broadway shows next season (Little Bear Ridge Road (with Metcalf and Montello), Mountak (a new David Hare also with Metcalf and Montello) and Cottonfield (a new Bruce Norris) and then a Salesman revival with Nathan Lane.
I’m curious if all of those still happen or if backlash rises from this piece.
I was really hoping for Bear Ridge Road to transfer and I’m a Nathan Lane super fan. Ugh.
The photos in that article. Nothing says “I have empathy now” quite like a sweater.
Like it or not he’s coming back in some capacity. I believe people can change, but I’m less convinced a couple years of therapy are effective enough to change habits of 25+ years. We’ll see, I guess.
If he really wants forgiveness he’ll bring August: Osage County to Broadway starring Laurie Metcalf and Carrie Coon.

Is he still on the equity do not work list?
Edit: Also my desire to not see shows at Little Island was just justified imo

Laurie Metcalf is going to do two shows with him this season????
Only one way to see if he’s changed, people will know later this year!

I don't really find this that surprising?
“Little Bear” was remarkable. I’m thrilled NY will get to see Metcalf in this!
I don’t really think Broadway has felt his loss, tbh. Between Seaview, ATG, Wagner & Johnson, Jamie Lloyd, and others, there’s no shortage of interesting plays being done on Broadway. Some of them are even making money.
I assume Barry Diller will bankroll all these? No investors should expect to see a dime off a Laurie Metcalf production, talented as she is.
His return to theatre felt inevitable. It’s his life.
His method of producing and promoting shows will have to change. He will need to lean into digital in a way that he rolled his eyes at before. Static print & programmatic display ads won’t help. Audience behavior has changed a lot since 2019.
Separate from any of the big issues at play...Nathan Lane as Willy Loman? Consider me...curious.

The Lane/Metcalf Salesman has been rumored for a long while. It seems to be a pet project for Rudin.
It’s worth remembering that when all the stuff with Rudin hit the fan, the stars who worked with him were almost all uniformly silent.
There’s nothing surprising about Rudin returning after several years away; nor about Metcalf, Lane, and Mantello working with him. Some of their most satisfying work in NY theatre (and film, in Metcalf’s case) has been possible due to his producing prowess. Like the guy or not, he knows good work and he’s very good at making it happen. I disagree Broadway hasn’t missed his presence, at least as far as quality of product goes.

Does Disney have to rehire Rob Roth now?
I’m just surprised another producer doesn’t/hasn’t filled the void Rudin left. Tom Kirdahy has come close.

Greg Nobile/Seaview is the closest analog in terms of what they’re producing and how, and likely wouldn’t exist without Rudin serving as a model.

Lorie Metcalf is my favorite American actress, but I see absolutely no reason to give this man anymore of my money. Broadway has moved on and we don't need to look backwards.
I do not miss some of the arcane Rudin rules for the theater. Like the time I had to throw out my coffee thermous even though I showed them it didn't have any liquid in there.

Interestingly, the following statement from Rudin in the NYT profile felt pointedly aimed at Nobile/Seaview, although maybe I'm just reading too much into it:
“'I think the economics of Broadway have gotten tougher and tougher, and that some producers are throwing movie stars at that model as a way of cauterizing the bleeding,' he said. 'But I don’t believe it’s a sustainable model because overall, what has historically worked has been really good shows with really great people in them, whether they were movie stars or not. And I think using stars as a replacement for quality has a sell-by date printed all over it.'”
He said he worried that there was 'a paucity of work that’s truly, truly achieved' and too much work that feels 'first drafty.'”
