Is it normal these days for people to ask everyone around them how they are enjoying the show. Or is it just me that doesn't do that? Updated On: 2/10/11 at 11:25 PM
I have had conversations with strangers at the theatre regarding a show Erik. I also think that given this show, everyone has a strong opinion so I think random 'what do you think?' type convos would be more common. I think there has also been some exaggeration re these convos though :)
I saw it yesterday matinee...no problems at all ..no stops during the production..I really loved the show..is it great ..no . but I enjoyed it and thought it was like a comic book come to life..which is what they were going for. I went in expecting to hate it and I was very surprised...everyone around me in the flying circle said the same ..and the kids in the audience were really enjoying it. The flying is amazing no matter what the reviews say it was impresive. The music is not great 2 good songs ..but it wasnt horrible. The 2 guys playing the guitars made no sense to me but other than that I loved it...
bryan2 should take over Brantley, he even talks to EVERYONE in the flying circle after the show!

I went at the matinee today. And I found it to be a decent show. There were surveys on the seats when we got there, and asking us to evaluate both acts. I dunno, Is this new? Or has there always been surveys? Anyway, I enjoyed it for the most part. I found some scenes to be quite dumb, like the wresting scene with the blow up doll. Seriously, they couldn't get a person? I didn't like the geek chorus. I felt they should have only been in the beginning to explain Arachne and then once in the 2nd act. That's it! I enjoyed the flying aspect. And I did like some of the songs. Mainly, boy falls from the sky. We had the understudy Matt. And I thought he was great! I liked him more the Reeve(based on the youtube video I found). Overall not the best show I saw. But defiantly not the worst
In all seriousness, I think that their thinking behind only letting them see one act is that they think these people will be so intrigued with what they'd seen they'll leave the theater very curious about the rest of the show, which means if they're curious they'll be less negative. It seems a ridiculous thing to me to go through all that trouble for opinions (if they actually want them and aren't just doing this to make it seem like they're interested in fixing this mess) if the opinions aren't going to be really accurate or representative of what people who've seen the whole show think. I noticed on Playbill.com that Joshua Kobak is listed as playing Meeks/Kraven the Hunter and a new swing has been added. Is this also reflected in the Playbill?
Dean: Can I tell you something?
Lorraine: That depends on what it is.
Dean: I think you're really really pretty.
Lorraine: (after a pause) Ok, you can tell me that.

It's just you, you Selfish Selena! Freelance polling, like stagedooring, is part of going to the theatre now...your experience is completely empty without it. I hope you're proud of yourself.

The playbill from today lists Joshua Kobak as Kong and Kraven

Jordan, I never thought of it that way. I can see that with the way everything else seems to be handled.
I was slammed for posting the reviews this past week on Facebook. I was told I was being mean and on a negative campaign against the show. The person who slammed me said that the music was wonderful as were the sets. She has yet to see the show. I told her that if she had been following the show, which she says she has, all of the press speaks for itself. Like the show or not. Have seen it or not. This is a big mess. The things that we have been discussing here for the most part aren't things that we are making up but actual news coming from the production. Those things alone just make all of this look bad. Just my random thoughts.
Deeply Furious was still in the show last night, but it's been changed significantly. The scene immediately following it between Jameson and Arachne has been cut.

Same here. I someone told me that I seemed to be taking 'great joy' in posting the reviews.
No. Frankly, the whole thing makes me sick.
So much money and talent was wasted. All this time and money and this is the best they could come up with?
It makes me sad knowing they could have mounted SEVERAL multi-million dollar productions of many other shows and had a better chance at success.

Well, in my case it was also about the comments I posted regarding the reviews. A few friends were commenting and we were talking about some of the things said in the reviews. I was not commenting on the show itself as I have not seen it yet. I was also commenting on everything that has been made public about the show. She came down on me and told me I was better than that because of my "affiliation" with the arts. I assured her that I wasn't saying anything that the public didn't already know. She wasn't happy with that.
It's great they're actively trying to get feedback. But they, you know, shoulda been doing it in December. Not when they have less than a month before their tentative opening.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
Isn't it pointless to only show the focus groups (i'm assuming) just act one? Virtually all the reviews thus far have said that act 2 is really where the **** hits the fan.
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
Maybe they think that if they see the whole show they're giving it away for free. Perhaps they think that if they only see one act they'll come back and buy a ticket for the whole thing. Or maybe they are trying to address the issue of a confusing act 2. If the focus groups like act 1 but are lost in act 2, maybe they'll decide that act 1 is enough of a show, give it an ending and cut act 2. Who knows. Glad they're doing something but they're running out of time....
Hey Blaxx you jerkoff I said everyone around me seemed to enjoy and yes there was a lot of conversation going on between people during intermission and when it ended it is that kind of show. I guess if you dont absolutly hate this show you are ridiculed?? I am not trying to be a critic just giving my opinion ..Have you seen it?? and if so I would be interested in your opinion. Get a life
