Cannot wait to see this.

Hahahaha. Best comment in the thread!
Looks stunning, cannot f*cking wait!!!!!!
Stunning! It does suck we have to wait until December though.
Looks great! Can’t wait to see it!
Jordan... leave Ivo alone! He’s an immense talent!
I can't wait for the interviews, featurettes and then the theatrical trailer for this movie. So excited.
Hearing Rita sing Somewhere and knowing her character is supposed to be Doc’s widow, I feel like she’s gonna sing some of the song in tribute to him likely behind closed doors before the main version between Tony and Maria.

me too!!
Maybe it’s just because I adored his work in Dear Evan Hansen so much, but Mike Faist is really popping onscreen. Super excited for his performance. I know he’s supposed to be an excellent dancer, and this will be my first time seeing that in action.

I've been a little skeptical about this, in part because of my doubt about whether a remake was necessary (despite the flaws in the original). But the trailer - especially featured on an Oscar telecast that was determined not to show the nominated films and performances - did stand out and do its job: I really want to see it now.

I did NOT expect to tear up watching that. Rita's voice is what got me, but the whole thing was beautiful and brought me there. I'm somehow even more excited!

I hope Rita's version of Somewhere is used for the Somewhere Ballet scene in the film itself

I didn’t expect to hear Rita sing Somewhere! And the teaser overall is so beautiful. I’m usually not a sad ending person. But as a fan of the first movie, I’m super pumped.
I’m so excited to have a musical film to look forward to in theaters! Going to the movies was one of my favorite things to do pre-pandemic, and I think the last thing I got to see was the recent Star Wars movie and was waiting for the spring/summer round of movies to come out before everything shut down. My fiancé and I will be married by the time this comes out, so hopefully WSS can be our first fun movie outing together as a married couple after the mess this past year has been. :)
I loved the sneak peek and it included something that was absent from every single version of West Side Story I have ever seen: the presence of the Puerto Rican flag, and for me as a Puerto Rican was important to see represented on screen. A country’s flag is important to its people and I applaud Spielberg and Kushner for including it.
It also looks like the rumble is going to be grittier and bloodier than in the original which is fine as it will give more weight to the tragedy at hand.
I can’t wait until December.
As much as a remake was not necessary (considering the original is an Oscar-winning classic that celebrates its 50th anniversary this year) the trailer alone from last night is a testament to Steven Spielberg's passion and devotion to the material. A passion project, indeed.
From https://www.ign.com/articles/new-photos-from-steven-spielbergs-west-side-story:
Spielberg says he grew up with a mother who was a pianist playing classical music. The West Side Story soundtrack was the first mainstream music that was played in the Spielberg home.
"West Side Story was actually the first piece of popular music our family ever allowed into the home. I absconded with it—this was the cast album from the 1957 Broadway musical—and just fell completely in love with it as a kid," Spielberg said. "West Side Story has been that one haunting temptation that I have finally given in to.”

Based on what we've seen, the film looks like it'll go MUCH deeper than the stage version and the original film

I love that they showed a shot of Graziella actually being an active character rather than a generic side character. They actually showed her being emotional rather than just hanging with Velma on the side. I hope Velma also gets actual dialogue other than the nonsense words she said in the original.
Yeah, Arthur Laurents did those two characters dirty in the original stage play. Tony Kushner giving new life to not just the main characters, but also the side characters while adding new ones sounds like an amazing script.
Also I recently discovered that Tony also did the lyrics and book to the awesome musical Caroline Or Change. Now that's a sign of quality right there!

Which characters outside of the leads and Velma and Graziella could use the most improvement?
