Yeah....no.

This isn't selling well and I doubt they have a bunch of celeb names for an old show that no one under 30 knows anything about. Also, the complete lack of marketing and advertising is really strange as well.

Casting just announced:

  • Maxim Chlumecky as Matt
  • Nathan Levy as Lewis
  • Kevin Del Aguila as Mortimer
  • Ruthie Ann Miles as Bessie Mae
  • David Patrick Kelly as Henry
  • Zane Phillips as El Gallo
  • Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer as Mildred
  • Ahmad Simmons as The Mute

I'd buy a ticket to Ruthie Ann Miles reading the Wikipedia summary of THE FANTASTICKS, but Zane Phillips...? Embarrassing.

Thrilled to see Kritzer and Miles here but, yeah, Zane is an absolutely out of left field choice.

Re: THE FANTASTICKS at the Hayes -- Casting Speculation

Do they really expect this cast to sell tickets?
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Peck has a new album coming out in a few weeks and will be touring. He'd be great casting but it was never in the cards for this.

Hahahaha, it sure looks like it, those men will sell a total of 5 tickets. However, Ruthie and Leslie are brilliant in every way, so at least they got something right.

Oh, see now THAT’S what’s up. But also, I can’t imagine Orville would want to spend six months working for little more than scale

Re: THE FANTASTICKS at the Hayes -- Casting Speculation

I don’t personally think there’s anything wrong with the casting since I’m not terribly familiar with any of their work, but - aside from Ruthie Ann Miles and Leslie Kritzer, who are tragically overqualified for these roles - it’s just not very exciting. However, Zane Phillips feels like the 10th choice for El Gallo if they were offering that role out specifically. That’s the real head-scratcher here.

I don't know his work at all, but most shows that are playing the star game have to make 5-10+ offers per part before someone says yes. It's a slow process, and at a certain point they just have to pick someone who they know is available and interested. He might not be famous-famous, but he might get a little more press coverage than someone like Nick Christopher.

This site is being wonky again. I did NOT post the above message. I barely know who Orville Peck is.
