Saw this performance and Kathy Voytko’s singing was divine!!! I agree that the only part that could be better was the final tap scene but for me the singing/acting were more important and she did a great job! Plus I felt the chemistry between her and Hugh. Oh and sidenote — there was a funny moment when a large amount of saliva unintentionally came out of Jackman’s mouth while speaking to the kid (not sure how to describe it.)
I’ll admit I was not really a fan of the story itself but the production was impressive and yes, I bought tickets because I wanted to see Hugh Jackman perform on Broadway.
In terms of emotions, I was more moved by Hugh Jackman’s speech honoring swings/understudies at the end than any other part of the show.
I disagree with the contention that Hugh Jackman is less enacting the role of Harold Hill than selling himself as a song-and-dance man. There is more than one way to play a character. For most the image of Robert Preston or Craig Bierko comes to mind regarding Hill. They played Hill as slick, oily grifter who’s essentially all business. It seems to me that Zaks decided to emphasize the playful aspect of Hill’s personality. He’s still the consummate con man but with an affinity for grabbing fun and frivolity when he can. It’s simply a difference of interpretation.

If it helps, a friend of mine who has attended the show said the rhyming word they heard was "regretful", not "dreadful". Perhaps the original poster of those lyrics earlier in the thread heard it incorrectly.
Reading these reviews- I now have second thoughts about seeing this production. Loved Hugh in Boy From Oz- did not really love the Christmas show from several years back- it was okay but not great, IMO. Got second row center seats for May- and was hoping it was gonna be an amazing production with tons of WOW moments- and it does not sound like that is what most people are experiencing. To travel to NY from Atlanta- and see a mediocre show- is not something I want to do- wondering if I still should consider doing it.
1. Hopefully Sutton is okay. There's no performance today.
2. All four (adult) swings were on last night. Never seen that during previews. Hopefully those that are out are back soon, otherwise they might be facing cancellations soon.
3. Would they have done the same if Jackman was out and gone with Max Clayton for one performance?

A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I imagine if Jackman is out, they will cancel the show or wait to see how many people leave and then decide. During the original run of Sunset Boulevard, Glenn was out and they announced the show would still run. Ten minutes later they announced that due to the number of people who left the show would not be run.

Feels like they're gonna have more cases and likely some cancellations this weekend.

If Jackman tests positive, would they really cancel over a week's worth of performances if everyone else is good to perform? Just have Max Clayton go on and offer refunds.

Does anyone know if Sutton Foster is above the title? In looking at all the signage for the show, she is technically below it, as it reads “HUGH JACKMAN”, then the next line is “THE MUSIC MAN” and then the third line is “SUTTON FOSTER” - making her technically below it?
If Jackman is out and either Clayton or Montgomery get to go on, I'd do what I can to get in and see either one to support them.

So that’s my question, can one only get a refund if the performer is out if their name is above the title? We have tickets for tomorrow night. Now that we know Sutton Foster will be out (hope she gets better soon) we still plan to go but if Hugh Jackman is out that is a whole different story. Though even with Sutton Foster out we spent more money on the tickets than we normally would have, the reasoning being we were going to see both of them but now if we can get a refund and get cheaper tickets we may just do that.
Is she? What’s the billing according to the Playbill title page? Historically, this is one of the cases where the leading character won Featured Actress due to billing. Obviously, either way Sutton would be up for Leading Actress at the Tonys next year.
I'm sure they will honor refunds for Sutton being out. She's a major draw and advertised. I am all about supporting standbys and understudies. However, with those prices, I'd definitely be seeking a refund if the major players were out and I spent 300-800 bucks. I'd consider rebuying a cheaper ticket to see the same show. I'm more of a Sutton fan than a Hugh fan so her absence would bother me more.
