Though I understand the reasoning, it’s kind of wild that someone of Sutton Foster’s (Broadway) caliber will have to be petitioned to be considered for leading actress at the Tonys.

I'd love to read the complete new lyric. I remember someone on this board joked they'd change the lyric to "Shipoopi, Shipoopi, the girl who gives consent" and it seems they weren't too far off from the real lyric.
not . To travel to NY from Atlanta- and see a mediocre show- is not something I want to do- wondering if I still should consider doing it."
stay home because he wants you in New York with this ridiculous attitude! Well some people may not like choices nothing has remotely suggested this is a mediocre show! Hugh Jackman and cast are working their asses off. Other dancing by then they have to oh my God give us more for our money? I detest people who want to see the death of Broadway like you. Calling a huge cast of talented people, the most tony award winners probably ever in principal roles in the musical at the same time Mediocre?
What in the hell is wrong with people? Broadway is fighting tooth and nail to try to stay alive and we get some crap like this. Makes me furious.

I figured this was coming. Likely due to more positive cases within the cast/crew. I wouldn't be surprised if they're shut down for a solid week.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
Seems overly optimistic that they're hoping for Sunday night, right? Perhaps they are scheduling in additional rehearsals? Much has been made of how Kathy had very little chance to rehearse for Marian because the main cast takes the bulk of the rehearsal time during previews. So maybe they're taking some time to rectify that? I guess we'll see.
(ha! I see you said exactly the same thing over in the cancellation thread).
Or perhaps they've been able to bring in an extra swing or two for the show and they need the weekend to rehearse? Though with it being Christmas, that may seem doubtful.

Let’s say Sunday evening comes and there’s one (or possibly two) understudies in the leading parts…assuming there will be requests for refunds, would those seats be offered at a more reasonable price or would they still be in the 300-800 range?

I haven’t seen this production, and as such I’m not going to say if it’s mediocre or not. However, an abundance of talent does not always equal a great show. Young Frankenstein (ironically enough with Sutton Foster, and Shuler Hensley), and Women on the Verge… come to mind.
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel

Anyway, a few of the posts- especially ones that talked about too much choreography- and glancing at the Playbill because of boredom- he said- never a good sign to do that- and people stating that is seemed like Jackman was basically showing off his singing and dancing talents- well, that is what it seemed to me some of the posters were stating- but, I do love theater- and I do love Jackman- and Foster- and I looked at some of the clips- and it seem to me to be a very joyous show- and actually, I cannot wait to see it. Plus, I really like the storyline in Music Man- and find the romance between Harold and Marian touching. So, I am looking forward to seeing this- and Debra Messing in Birthday Candles the following night in May- and hope that by then Sutton, Hugh and company will be in good health and ready to sing, dance and entertain.

The same thing can also be said about the most recent Broadway revival of Carousel.
Also regardless of the level of talent, this amount of jarring and constant changes, shifts and replacements is most likely going to affect the quality of a show during this fledgling time. Previews are a time to gel, settle, refine and get into a rhythm. It’s very stressful on any cast to be dealing with constant changes. Not saying they aren’t up to it, but this very different.
That level of stress, anxiety, and adrenaline also impairs immunity when people need it most.

I don’t think so this show was ever going to be anything revolutionary. Jackman is a terrific singer/actor/dancer but I wouldn’t say he’s going to do anything too out of the norm. So far it seems like it’s just a good ol fashion Broadway musical, which, to me, is what it’s selling.
it doesn’t sound like something I’d be too interested in - I’d rather see Company again - but to each their own!
Damn you can tell Scott Rudin isn't involved anymore -- so many pictures of the rehearsals and backstage on the actors' social media. Usually Scott Rudin demanded a social media blackout from his actors.
I know this is very silly of me, but I am very sad to not see Ann Sanders as a Marian cover. She would be absolutely brilliant in the role.

was fortunate to catch the 2nd preview this past Tuesday (and was seated right behind Hillary Clinton)
Gotta say, i thoroughly enjoyed the show -- the entire cast was spectacular, the orchestra sounded fantastic, and the sets and staging are very servicable. True, nothing earth-shattering design wise, but i think they're going for an old-fashioned 'Broadway Golden Age' look & feel and they've succeeded in that respect. Hugh and Sutton were at the top of their game, both gave stellar performances, as did the entire cast.
Nothing innovative or revolutionary here, but I got exactly what I was expecting from the show -- a big, old-fashioned Broadway musical, presented in a classic fashion, and i'm so glad i got to see it.
And this was the night after seeing Company --- surely the better production complete with STELLAR performances, a modern take on a classic show, and with very elegant, sophisticated and innovative sets and staging. I wasn't expecting all that with Music Man, and I wasn't disappointed............ AT ALL.
And in chatting with her after the show, Hillary thoroughly enjoyed it too :)
