Couldn't agree more with ScaryWarhol. Some moments were good, but as an actual awards show, abysmal pretty much encapsulates the evening. Midler performing would have turned things around it, instead poor David Hyde Pierce had to sing a second-rate song with none of his cast members in front of a curtain. I hope they can get Spacey back next year because this year's telecast was not worthy of the class and enthusiasm he brought to the proceedings.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
When all is said and done, the Tony Awards broadcast is a video yearbook of Broadway. Good, bad, or indifferent, the show is a time capsule of each Broadway season. I will be watching this over and over, along with all the other year's shows that I have.
Some of my favorites won, some didn't, but I enjoyed this year. I will be looking to iTunes to purchase, and I am happy I have a video representation of it.

Yeah, really, aplogize for cutting off just moments before the big moment. After some chatter with talking heads and the hot weather, they went back to the Tonys. I wonder if they got calls. It cut back just as Kevin and Robin were walking across the stage.

That's terrible. The same thing happened to me in 2013, when CBS atlanta cut to the news right before Best Musical. I have never forgiven them for robbing me of the chance to see Kinky Boots win!
Spacey was only really funny at the end doing his Underwood bit.
Bette, LuPone yelled at the Orchestra in 2008 and it was funnier.
The GOUNDHOG DAY performance would have been the worst of the evening, but Rudin made us listen to Penny in my Pocket.
Chris Ashley needs to give that Tony to Rachel Chavkin.
I thought this was the worst produced ceremony in years.

Kevin Spacey did an excellent job. I wouldn't mind him coming back. I especially like that he didn't make it all about him as some hosts do. It was understated in a good way and well written. In some ways I think it was best that they picked someone who couldn't do crazy numbers like NPH. Not to insult Neil, but less is more ya know.
I thought Kevin Spacey did a decent job entertaining and showcasing his mimicking talent, however the show as a whole seemed forced and clumsy. The lift of the night for me was The Great Comet performance and Cynthia Nixon's acceptance speech but the entire Hello Dolly representations were a big disappointment. I was lamenting that I had to wait until October to see Dolly but now I'm glad I have plenty of time to wash away the memory of tonight.
The only review of a show that matters is your own.
One award win I was disappointed in - I though orchestrations should've gone to Dave Malloy - but otherwise the rest were very rightly deserved. (Very happy DEH won Best Book.) I now begin my petition to have John Mulaney and Nick Kroll host next year's show.

Its too bad her now stale talent is overshadowed by her ugly and disgusting ego.

As someone who hasn't really gotten the chance to follow the season closely this year, this ceremony was boring and disappointing. I'm sure the shows unfortunately just chose weak numbers, because I know how a lackluster Tony performance can make an otherwise great show seem bland to outsiders, but the only performance that really piqued my interest tonight was Great Comet's. My family ended the night asking me why I made them watch that whole thing.
I thought Kevin Spacey did a good job tonight, though. (And as a side thought, Mark Hamill's looking great.)

I wonder if there was a contingency if Patti had won. It would seem odd to me if moments earlier she'd won Best Actress and then joined Kevin for the final song, as if, "Ok we want to really show you what a great performer your new Best Actress is so here she is."
Gotta say I loved Bette's speech. Only Midler can play the orchestra off and still be left standing at the end,. The woman knows her power and isn't afraid to use it.

Ahh... no you won't. And if you do, you're a real asshole.

Audience members are not required to stand for performers during bows. It's not something that's owed to them. After paying $500+ for a ticket, what I choose to do with my body during curtain call is my choice. The only thing owed during a night a theatre is a top-notch performance by the actors who audience members are literally paying to see shimmy and skip around the stage.
By no means do my actions make me that very classy expletive you called me. It does make performers who feel they are entitled to standing o's that though.

All I have to say was the most hysterical moment that had me in stitches and actually made me fall for it was when Josh Gad said that he would be playing Pseudolus in the revival FORUM which ended up being false. I honestly would kind of like to see him in the role, but, anyway. Lol.
